Same price to hire please Mr Hornby Lathe owner
for the hill walkers it’s a good job that you didn’t climb on Sunday as that was the 3 Peaks Cyclo-Cross race, would have been a tad busy with rolling road closures etc.! http://3peakscyclocross.org.uk/
Looks like the date for 2020 will be Sunday September 27th so the dates Dave mentioned will avoid it.
That’s worth knowing Paul. There are several paths up and down Pen y Ghent of course. Dave led us up this one (not my pics obvs)
I don’t think cyclists could have ridden up it and they’d have spent a long time airborne if they tried to go down that way !
VB
normal route would be from start (outside Horton) and up the steep side of Pen-y-Ghent, then north
so arse about face route, cyclists are nutters
Nuttahs.
edit: ah, I see @maverick thinks exactly the same
I do not disagree
The cyclocross map seems to show just one path up and down Pen y Ghent, which corresponds to the Pennine Way and is the way we came down (yellow here)
In places that path is quite narrow and how the competitors are supposed to pass one another in the tight spots I’m not sure. But otherwise while it can be steep it is, pretty much, smooth going. If I was super-fit (ha, ha) and had the right bike I reckon I could get up it almost without having to put my foot down.
The way we went up (in red) would mostly be tougher for anyone with a bike - flattish bits then properly steep bits, with steps in places. The last leg however was, literally, up a rock face. Encumbered with a rucksack it’s fine, even for old duffers like me. I only ever needed one hand. Encumbered with a bike I might have managed it. I’d have had to take it slowly though and, most importantly, I’d have needed plenty of room i.e. no-one close by. I’d bet reasonable money that in a crowd of people trying to hurry sooner or later one would slip. How many they’d take down with them onto the rocks below would be a matter of guesswork.
Sure, cyclists are nutters. But the risk of ending up in a coroner’s court is probably what put the organisers off sending anyone up the hard way.

So that’s decided then, everyone bring there bikes next year, and I’ll promise to not be too hung over next time…
their tsk
Dave was talking about Ingleborough for next year. If you haven’t got enough to carry then there’s no need to bring a bike - I’ll happily let you take my rucksack !

Richard my mate from Guernsey fancies coming over in 2020, at this rate I’ll be excluded as the only attendee actually from Yorkshire
I did that once (geology field trip).
However I was 19 not 52.
Ahem… though I admit that I’ve only lived here for the last 35 of my 67 years
Once you’re over half then maybe you can claim it
