I have never knowingly listened to a Japan or David Sylvian record.
Some things just pass you by.
Danny thompson played on two of Sylvian albums. Possibly his best two.
Brilliant trees and secrets of the beehive.
I was a latecomer to his solo stuff, but really like a lot of it
By the time Sylvianâs solo stuff came out Iâd moved on to different things and didnât hear Brilliant Trees until I was nearly 40, and that led me right back into playing my Japan LPs again.
My son in lawâs band, Acrington Stanley, opened for Japan, on their tour of Japan.
I fucking love her music. This song is so beautiful. Proper listening sessions with this album always have me in tears with itâs beauty:
Solo version of Ghosts and short interview as Japan were breaking up.
Slovak Human League cover with what appears to be Les Dawsonâs MiniMe on sax.
Not quite the same without wilko, but love that you could so close to the band without security going nuts.
Both of them; playing together:
One of the good/bad things of being young in the 70s/80s was telly shutting down at midnight and your average dope/piss head having to watch bbc 2 open university to learn Japanese or quantum physics.
But before that you could catch some weird late night entertainment
Great version of Life during wartime @ 13:45
Thatâs fcking superb!
have no idea if there will be a Christmas music thread, but if there is, this should be on it
Brillianto !
Only recently came across these guys, sadly it seems theyâve just split up. Really good UK bass music. Itâs not a genre I generally love, as it too easily seems to turn into a parody of itself with silly bass-lines, but I think these guys get the balance right.
and this mix:
A bit niche admittedly but Iâve come to love the musical side of him and having Jimmy Webb as a songwriter helps but I think this is proper lost classic.
My personal barometer of a rock type artist is would they have stood up in the late 60s early 70s alongside Beatles, stones, the who, Bowie, zeppelin etc
Has to be a resounding yes for Radiohead
