2021 Formula One - The Bollox Continues

I would guess to make it some sort of spectacle for the last lap. Not giving the slightest fuck that it was making up the rules. Financially it would matter one fuck to F1.

Because those were the only ones that had an impact on the championship.

Did Merc ask for the safety car to finish? I must’ve missed that during the race. Stupid if they did because they had nothing to gain and everything to lose. Unless they meant green flag but don’t let lapped cars through?

Hahahaa, the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on here. And that’s some fucking claim.

No mate, they should have definitely strategised that the race director would make up something completely on the hoof.

As I posted up thread; It was why the rule of allowing lapped cars to get out of the way of the race, was introduced.

Lewis had the faster car, and drove a brilliant race.
They knew there was a possibilty of a safety car, they discussed it.
They made a tactical decision to stay out, and Red Bull gambled.
Merc paid for that decision, and lost.
Some tactical blame, and some really bad luck.

As you well know, that is not what the rule says. ALL the cars affect the championship. The exact opposite of the premise you suggested for the reasoning behind letting 5 go.

The only comment from Merc I remember from the safety car was Toto telling Masi “this is not right” in relation to the cars unlapping themselves.

The Race Director has rules. These rules are open to interpretation. The top two Team Principles state that they want to race to the finish. An opportunity arises where the clearance of the track allows racing to resume. To facilitate this request, the rule is applied to lapped cars most affecting the race. This was the only way to allow the race to finish under Green flags.

QED.

After the penny had dropped and could see that Lewis was going to be passed.

It wasn’t though, was it?

They could have set them off with Verstappen behind 5 cars.

QED that up your hoop.

As a casual watcher of sport in general, that was the worst and most unfair thing I’ve ever seen.

If those are the rules, then the book needs lobbing.

Not really, RB were going to lose the race, they had nothing to lose by coming in.
If Lewis had come in they would have stayed out and Max would have had track position.

Once the Safety cars were called RB held the cards and Merc had no choice.

Interpreting rules is why we have case law ffs.
It happens all the time.

You are all right.

It only matters what the appeal says now. I’ve not read any comment that isn’t correct.

The Race Director interpreted the Rule. Isn’t he open to bribes in the future?

This isn’t football Dave.

Nothing will change, Merc probably feel they have to do it but they know nothing will come of it.

Now if that had been Ferrari in the Bernie days , :grinning:
