Once again, it’s cost him some cash but he’s stayed out of jail

Yep. Like most of these characters, he’ll dismiss it as operating costs.

“Ecclestone has agreed in a civil settlement to repay almost £653m to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), a court heard.”

Even with an estimated net worth of £2.9B, that is a fairly hefty operating cost

Well the case involves concealed/undeclared funds, this plus the fact that he agreed to it at-all, suggests his actual wealth >+++++> his declared wealth.

Either way, he’s going to struggle to get it all spent before he shrugs-on his pine overcoat…

His kids won’t have any trouble

I hope they invest almost all of it wisely in drugs and drink and whores :+1:

And waste the rest… :hushed:

That will likely be a tax bill of £326.5 million plus a fine of £326.5 million.

If you are deemed to have deliberately hidden or avoided tax the fine will be 100% of the tax owed.

Poor Bernie

Which may not be the case here.

no it was a £330 million fine.

It can be, but there are then ways of mitigating it. There’s a formula for it.

And

very strongly implies that they have wangled something.

His tax bill was £330 million including interest and the fine was £330 million.

No deals, no wangling, no silly fucking formulas or mitigation.

The twat started by pleading ‘not guilty’, he lied and deliberately hid money so he got fucked for it.

Nice skid lid tribute by Pierre Gasly…

Can any of the nerds on here point me toward a post-race source of laptimes ?

They used to be on racefans but no longer, and with this seasons processions I haven’t be terribly itnerested in looking at them, TBH

(Lapchart is here, I know: https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/2023_19_usa_f1_r0_timing_racelapchart_v01.pdf )

EDIT: Gods sake, they’re on the same site

Mike is a good guy and was head of Aero in 2014 when I left Merc and continued in that role for most of the long run of championships. He was then promoted to Technology Director as Geoff Will was moved to another role. He was then promoted to be Technical Director some time before the 21 season. And then more recently he and James Alison swapped roles. I always felt that he was best as head of Aero and that he did not have the skillset required for any of the following roles. Now of course a reasonable question is how do you gain enough experience to be successful in these new roles? In my experience the ones that are successful have always had a wider interest in engineering, whereas Mike was very much an aero person.

So in the end I think he was promoted way beyond his level of competence.

@f1eng is a very good example of someone who has an extremely wide range of experience (where he was successful) and so during his career in F1 was in a very good position to be a Technical Director.

We both agree that he is the last of the engineers likely to ever have that breadth of experience and skills in F1 due to the specialisation required nowadays.

Whereas I am a specialist and would be a disaster as a TD!

Rumblings of Fred to Red Bull, with Perez going in the other direction

Struggling to believe it’d happen, unless Alonso has an incredibly water-tight exit clause.

Even if Horner would have Fred alongside Max, would Aston be satisfied with Perez? He wouldn’t be my lead driver of choice

Highly speculative stuff, but why the hell not? He’s been on way better form than Chico, notwithstanding Haaston-Martin’s latter-season backsliding performancewise.

Playing second-fiddle to Max? Not Fred’s natural choice of perch, but it would certainly motivate him: a sniff at another WC and beat the younger man? He’d love a crack I’m sure, if team-orders allowed it, and at least there’d be some racing at the front for the first time in three years…

It wouldn’t surprise me if Max has a No Competition clause. RB would pay lip service to giving his team mate a chance but only if Max gave it the nod.

It’s not going to happen.
