There isn’t a bad OLED from LG, Philips, Panasonic or Sony at the moment. The bells and whistles vary a little but they’re all stupidly capable.
Put some Avantgarde Trios either side of the TV and it’ll look fucking tiny.
Reiterate the go bigger. I tried to hold up paper cut to size and it still didn’t really convey the final effect.
Which is you can fit more in.
And I agree that there isn’t a bad choice at the budget and oled spec. We have the LG c8 from two or three years back and it’s lovely.
We have the 55" 805 oled. It is very nice. Big, but not too big.
Finally, someone who understands the spec’
Sorry, will delete straight away.
Beware LG, they have a problem syncing sound .
That reminded me - iPlayer on the 805 is a bit suss. Sometimes it won’t do sound out of the TV if you open the iPlayer from the apps page, but it will if you use the green button from a bbc channel. Plus bbc seem to use the fanciest sound encoding so I find the amp (via arc) is behind unless I put it into direct mode (which I guess let’s the tv do the decoding?)
Also, sometimes the tv continues to play sound after its supposedly switched to ARC - and there is a slight delay so you get an echo and can’t adjust the volume
I’m thinking of switching to optical to feed the amp as ARC isn’t the most reliable (not just in the Philips)
Any of these fancy OLEDs link wirelessly to speakers?
i think (you’ll need to check) that LG have something called “LG Sound Sync Bluetooth” which allows you to use your TV with LG wireless speakers
I dont know if the sound sync works with other makes of bluetooth speaker…
don’t think sound sync works at all, I looked at it a while a go and the internet was full of stories about it being shit.
Went with a Sonos ARC over HDMI in the end.
I took an Optical out from the TV into my DAC to play a music concert through the HiFi and it was rubbish, wouldn’t sync at all.
Ended up just listening through the LG sound bar on ARC HDMI
The digital out to the DAC used to work perfectly on my old Panasonic
Yeah ARC HDMI does seem to be good, I haven’t had any sync issues with it.
Did you set the TV to output stereo over optical? By default it sends multichannel (or multichannel flagged) stuff which your DAC won’t handle. Mine is connected to the Mscaler all the time.
I don’t think I did, I will have a look at it again at the weekend.
I think I probably just plugged it in as I did with my old Panasonic and expected it to work in the same way. Thanks for the tip.
Slightly over budget, but you get some free headphones
Bob on for old top gear episodes on Dave
Are you seriously suggesting a large HD picture of Clarkson’s mug is a good idea?
I liked the suggestion for a TV program where a classic car would be completely renovated apart from the brakes. I personally would watch Clarkson on ‘Through the Windscreen’ on a big TV. I might even watch the repeats on Dave.
