What an amazing and complex machine!
Yes clever kit, but apparently no work lined up for them at the moment. Especially as Transpennine are dropping all of their loco hauled stock by the end of the year. Expensive new Mk5 carriages which have only had limited use, not sure who will pick those up.
Oh shit ! I have read that a number of operators are storing electric locomotives due to high costs.
Maybe these will step in and cover that work. Having said that, I am not so convinced by tri mode. This is for class 769 reasons.

Yes the 769’s are awful, just less awful than the 142’s they replaced in the Northwest. Luckily only get to spend 30 mins each way on them when I visit Southport once a year.
@AmDismal Agree bearable for short journeys, but I really felt it when we last visited Brighton.

We now just export our old Class 86/87’s to Bulgaria, and as @MonitorGold10 mentioned before our Class 43’s HST’s to Mexico. If anyone knows a transport minister we could all club together a pick up some lightly used TransPennine Stock soon to be going spare.
Suspect a fair swap could be made for some unusable out of date PPE already paid for by the tax payer.
Lots of interesting reading/photos on that site of the APT-E Gas turbine, APT-P and other railway testing. Shows how much we have lost, both technically, and to political meddling. APT-P being the obvious example of the later.
Very old style designed site, but content still great.
