That’s a bit of a trek from Grosmont. Unless it is hopping between other railways you do wonder if it would be more efficient to do most of the journey being towed on the main line, as I wouldn’t want to be trying to control that weight on a trailer around some of the roads in North Yorkshire.

I think some engines that does happen although I think its more expensive than my low loader.

The 9f can’t go by rail and the central driving wheel is flangeless and not compatible with check rails on modern points. It’s very sadly why none are mainline anymore. Both Black Prince and Evening Star did in at least the 80’s but nothing for years.

I have never seen a 9F in steam.
Im seriously thinking about taking the day off on the 16 and driving down to tick that particular box.

I know the passenger is a Brexit funding twat, but the amount of money he has ploughed into railway perseveration is impressive, as is the restoration of Royal Scot Grey. This sounds amazing especially if you watch to the very end and loud.

The Deltics were / are awesome brutes, same propulsion as the 40kt Dark class patrol boats or Ton / Hunt class minesweepers and handsome for a diesel too :heart_eyes::heart_eyes:

The 9F is an absolute weapon of a steam engine.

It was an excellent day, locos running none stop.
Really must make the effort to go to a few more events like this next year.

@Mrs_Maureen_OPinion if ever in Adelaide, this looks like the place to cum…

We’ve been living in an apartment above it for the last 4 weeks and only just noticed it

Always entered/exited via the rear carpark.

*Apologies for the poor photos.

Looks like the bluebell railway to me. If so I’m only down the road from one of the stations. Lovely place to visit, their real ale festival is brilliant fun

This was at the modelling show at the Warwickshire event centre. Steel chassis, 24V proper motor system so it apparently can pull people along and the body is entirely Lego with no glue used.

Sir Nige in preservation, on the NYMR

Saw that go through Wigan (actually right next to our works car park, which has the West Coast mainline as one of its borders) last year. Glorious sight and racket.

I mean, look at that, what an evocative image. Sigh.

I think that has to be at the engine shed end of the Grosmont tunnel (with someone allowed to be trackside) as otherwise the line over the dodgy bridge is flooded.

And as much as diesel locos can be impressive, interesting and worth preserving to maintain a particular part of history they can never beat that experience.
