Are sitting comfortably? If not, wait a couple of years:

The best thing here is that first class has exactly the same seats. I don’t expect luxury armchairs and complementary cigars, but some vague hint of comfort would be nice.

Especially if they put that in the rear carriages, which are declassified so pleb me can use it!

Good, those seats are fucking awful, and some of the routes like Brighton to Cambridge are 2.5 hours

Seat covers your say… up north we’re lucky to sit on wooden slats, that’s if you can find a seat…

A seat you say… we used to have to chase train down track and hold on to the sides

A train you say… you lucky bastards, we used to have to lay the track and considered ourselves lucky if we had a wheel…

A wheel…i give up

MrsKettle is on the N Gauge show this year. It is apparently heaving, however it is unlikely that there will be any queues for the ladies’ conveniences…

About time.
I was travelling to that London on Saturday and had bought a cheap saver return ticket.
Not valid on Gatwick Express trains.
There were issues on the line and trains were very late or cancelled.
I got myself to haywards Heath and got on a Gatwick Express train. Loads of announcements about travelling without a valid ticket for the train, which is an issue at Victoria as they have separate barriers.
Just before we left Haywards Heath they announced that Southern tickets would be accepted.
This should be automatic, if the operator can’t provide the service you have paid for they should honour any route that works for you

The thing that gets me is that this has taken ministerial time. Surely a minister is there to make complex decisions and guide department strategy, not to do the blindingly obvious? Ludicrous.

Very impressive scenery and just how long the Flying Scotsman ? ran.

Despite the ‘local news’ context, Felixstowe & environs are nationally important in freight distribution.

The amounts are pocket change in the context of HS2 as well.

I suspect that any major expansion could be usefully accompanied by electrification of the main freight routes as well now bimode locos are coming in.

Is it’s fate sealed?

I’ve no idea what’s going-on, despite its proximity - that whole site’s been a clusterfuck for years.

Was an interesting concept though. Shame it didn’t work out:

Britain’s terror of investment “wins” the day again. Seems Asia is doing better, notably China. Some economies of scale, though plentiful expendable slave labour probably factors pretty highly, too…
