Taken at Santa Cruz Botanical gardens in Tenerife. Fantastic place that was built on top the islands landfill site only 30 years ago. Lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Monarch

They were bloody big and a lot of them. Thats a 4x4 post it’s perched on.

Yeah, I’ve been to Michoacán, Mexico and had 17 million of them swarming around me.

I’ve got a couple of them somewhere - dead ones I collected from the ground and pressed into my notebook.

Just read up on them, 2800 mile migration from NA to Mexico. Astonishing!

I’ve seen a few in *Britain. So how the hell do they manage to cross the Atlantic???

*Isles of Scilly

With the wind in the right direction I doubt they have a lot of choice. :joy:

It was probably the wing-beat of one of them which caused the wind to blow that way in the first place.

So they’ve only got themselves to blame.

Spot the deer . . .

Bit easier, but his two mates are still tough to find . . .

To the left . . .

Young male whitetail deer hang out in small groups until they’re strong enough to begin challenging for females.

Mourning Cloak butterfly . . .

Was out fishing :fishing_pole_and_fish: Broke off a massive trout just as I was preparing to tail it, 13-15lb range. Gutted I didn’t get a pic of it, beautiful Steelhead in gorgeous spawning colours.

FoL#2 & gf are having a fine old time eating all the deli sandwiches they can find in NYC. Some of the sandwiches do look great but I really like these two pics.
Apart from the thin skyscraper this could be from any time in the last 50 years.

That’s very kind of you…thanks!

Some ancient dwarf lives there, probably forging a mystic blade!

Give him a ring, why don’t you!

Awesome picture. Gives an amazing sense of scale.

Thanks…I did have to hang around for about an hour until the light did that, but I thought the colour on the snow dusting, when it came, was worth it.

Thank you…that building, which gives the scale, is an incline drumhouse, had a roof until a few years ago. But is more photogenic without it IMHO. Just it’s going to deteriorate fast now.
