On the same day that eufa received millions in sponsorship from Saudi Arabia. Who would have seen that coming days after they were awarded the World Cup.
Well that was 45 minutes of my life I wonât get back.
Dreadful stuff.
Tonight has reminded me why I donât like England international football. It really is poo.
Wank
Englandâs performance, team selection, officials, C4 commentary team.
WANK
One day Southgate may win something, but most of the fans will have have the stadium before the final whistle.
I donât bother watching anymore.
Every cloud
Neither did we.
One of the great footy pics IMO. Charlton Scoring against Benfica
Mind, itâs just as well the ball didnât graze his fingernail before he headed it, what with his arm being in an unnatural position and all that.
13-0
After a difficult start to the season, my nieceâs team, Lewes have started to get their act together and moved off the bottom with a good win today. They do need to find a functioning striker in the next window though. They donât have one at the moment.
Werenât Lewes one of the better womenâs teams before this Wsl nonsense distorted the womens game ?
My first womenâs game and I had no idea what to expect. I had no idea , what level Argyle play at let alone Ilmister . ( 3 divisions below Argyle )
Tbh it wasnât a great advert for womenâs football.
Lots of misplaced passes , and not controlling the ball from both teams.
Argyles , forward players were far superior to the opposition defenders to the point of being embarrassing. If Ilminster had a bit more physicality and got nearer to them and stuck in it might have been more of a game.
Argyles defence , while looking noticeably bigger and stronger than the opposition looked like they thought they were better than they were and the Ilminster number 10 made them look a bit silly a few times. Itâs a shame she didnât have any support.
The difference in speed and power is the biggest thing for me.
Genuinely surprised when one of the Argyle defenders went down after blocking the ball , it really didnât look like there was much power in it. And a few other instances of the darks arts creeping it. Really not needed when youâre totally in control of the game.
The Ilminster goalkeeper had a little cry after i think it was the 8th went in and the game stopped for a few minutes.
I was rooting for Ilminster by then.
Attendance was 2060
Youâd really need to see a WSL or Championship game at first hand (or an International) to get a feel for what it can be like. Or maybe go if/ when Argyle women run into one of those higher rated sides later in the cup. I do enjoy watching it and like the engagement that the players have with fans post match although for WSL players in particular that aspect is becoming more difficult to continue with as the crowds grow.
Lewes are interesting in that itâs a football club with a mensâ and womensâ team and they pay players equally male or female. However they, like Durham and London City arenât attached to & assisted by a long established & successful mensâ side. Long term, itâs difficult to see such clubs thriving alongside the clubs that do have well supported mensâ teams. In Lewes case, they actually are currently taking on investment from an external source who do seem to âgetâ the clubâs ethos (no gambling sponsorship, actively being against prejudice of all kinds, pro equality etc). Whether itâll be enough to let them remain competitive with the big clubs remains to be seen, they lost many of their best players to clubs paying more this past summer. Maybe this time around, provided they stay up, they can hang on to them.
There is obviously a fair bit of money sloshing about at the top of womenâs football.
Emma Hayes reportedly going to be on 6 mill a year when she takes charge of the USA team.
How can that work realistically given FFP and the crowds that womenâs football get ?
I know they get decent attendances for the odd game but not all the time.
Mighty Macedonia!
Ridiculous penalty mind
Fuck me, Joe Cole looks like heâs on his way to a school caretakerâs leaving do.
Privilege to watch the world number ones.
To beâŚ
More number two? Do players care about dead rubbers?? Not watching but I bet many arenât breaking a leg and have an eye on the weekend.
