Well, he used to accept Cryptocurrencies but there’s no money in them now

It’s true though, I don’t really have the desire to turn it into a business. Can’t see it paying as well as the day job and I suspect it would be very hard work, and risky for many of the reasons mentioned above. Maybe once the mortgage is paid.

For now it is what it is, a hobby. I get to tinker/learn/practice and folks who come along for the journey (hopefully) get something nice.

Thanks mate, for me a very large part of it is knowing that people get enjoyment out of these.

We all get something out of it honestly. I had no idea that sound was possible until you built it. Fucking great. :+1::grin:

This is why autism > schizophrenia - sometimes I really want to be on some lonely abandoned planet in a lifeless galaxy, and other times, slightly less so…

I just close the curtains and pretend.

Sorry, can’t open another topic just for a plain silly and slightly related question. Anyone has any experience with S&B 600 ohm modules that used to be available (if my info is correct) through Thorsten Loesch for his revision of Shishido circuit, with E810F and D3a tubes? Could this LCR module be a bottleneck?

No idea about the S&B module, I’ve only used the Silk 10k (in my old prototype) which I liked. I prefer to use discrete rather than complete modules as you can tweak and change components. I get the inductors from Slagle, vishay resistors and whatever caps the person I’m building it for chooses. Using a module doesn’t allow this. Some (e.g. Tango) have continuity to ground as well, so can’t be used in this topology.

While 600 Ohms is a standard telecoms value (which is what these T-modules evolved from) and is fine for solid state, 600 is low for valves if using with a triode first stage (not the above cct., obvs) as there aren’t any triodes that like such low loads.

Even with a pentode you still want loads of gain to minimise noise (pentodes are noisier than triodes anyway, but using v high Gm helps). So using this topology a higher impedance helps. Going really high impedance will increase distortion from the pentode, however, which needs to be traded off.

My stage is about 0.01% at 250mV out, all 2HD, so 10x better than Serge’s criteria for adequate,

Serge’s criteria for adequate is for the component not to be broken :slightly_smiling_face:

Serge is also living proof that there are better ways to manage autism than simply indulging its every ludicrous whim…

I agree.
