Ant’s speaker wrangling

These look a decent price

Back from holiday, installed the hernia maker, and the tweeters kindly loaned by @AmDismal. Did a few measurements and still get the issue where it stops measuring frequencies below a certain point.

Trying to rig up a second audio interface now to narrow it down further. I deeply suspect the mic is fucked.

I have a Behringer and pre-amp somewhere if you want to try something else.

Cheers, switched to a different audio interface and the mic still didn’t measure low frequncies correctly, switched to a non measurement mic and got a flatish curve. Shame I didn’t figure this out within the 1 month return period, will investigate warranty.

It could just be broken, there was loads of noise on that recording

Behringer is £28 on Amazon right now, might just get one and say good enough.

How are things going?

Mic is going back for repair/replacement.

In the meantime I’ve tried a couple of different sloped on the crossovers and played with individual amp gains. Also did some digital alignment and put in a low boost to take care of the baffle roll off.

Things to note are, a lot of the noise I thought was the valve amp wasn’t, I reckon it’s coming from the streamer now or the dsp.

I like listening to it a lot less than I did as a 2 way. Some of this is amp and some is tweeters which at the moment I can still hear too well and it sounds ‘fizzy’.

When the mic is back I can start measuring again rather than shooting in the dark.

AA Strpline and team sport, 2-4-1 deal.

there are somethings when seen ones minds eye, cannot be unseen. Not going to Settle are you?

Not going to settle, no

Bought these to try, Sansui

Ant a question for -Regarding doubling up the minDSP units - Are you planning on only using the analogue input for this or are you planning on splitting a digital signal into two ?

Analogue only, my minidsps don’t have digital inputs.

The Sansui high horns sound very Different to the ribbons. Seems like there is more treble but it’s smoother. It’s possible they just roll off earlier and it suits my taste.

Looks mental. :+1:

It’s quite possible the Sansui things are much better, although there is no substitute for measuring and checking that the transition from one driver to the next works ok. Bad crossovers sound awful.

Yeah, hoping that I’ll have a working mic soon and then can learn about what needs to be done.

I have a mic that appears to be working.

Now to start tweaking. Obvious first step is turning the tweeters up
