Ant’s speaker wrangling

Is it time to dump REW and get HolmImpulse yet?

No. REW is better these days.

How about a sanity check?

roll out one of the LV speakers, and measure it at 1m

Holm is easier to get results

I have found REW really easy to get perfectly sensible looking results.

Unlike @ant, it seems

999hz to 1khz sweep (only way I could work out how to do it) @90db

The LVs are at my Dad’s, will bring them over at some point, maybe the weekend.

RTFM :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Tools - Generator, say 500Hz or 1KHz
Tools - SPL meter, it tells you how loud the tone is

no need for sweeps

also, in Preference, make sure mic/meter setting is set to mic or Z weighted spl meter

Yeah I did that to find out what level I needed to do the sweep at in order to prove that the tone generator/SPL meter level is the same as what gets put into the graph during measurement, which it is within 0.5db

It is, with the calibration file I got with the Mic added

Not my experience these days.

something is still wrong with all your sweeps. You haven’t got something else configure like high pass under the soundcard options, or a house curve, or other weird stuff?

and how many sweeps are you using to average the response? 4 or 8?

I’ve done 1 and 8 and seen no difference. Will look in all the setting on Friday. Might try the other app mentioned on Windows to compare.

What about trying a frequency sweep rather than pink noise?

That’s what I’ve been doing. No option to graph anything else from what I can see.

Figured this deserves its own topic.

I just don’t understand the results you’re getting. Speakers should be fairly flat, not a steady lift of up to 25dB from 200Hz to 2kHz.

Can you post pictures of your setup while measuring, and your work flow? Just phone pictures or something…

My call is that it’s using the laptop microphone all the time.

Bad Schumann juju - Perhaps moving closer to a lay line will help?
