Anyone done a speed awareness course?

Old Ma Waxy has a remote course on Saturday. As her dedicated IT Support… is it simply a click-on-the link-provided affair?

She already has 6 points so wants to avoid another 3. Bloody hooligan.

it is interactive so you will need camera etc.

It’s an interactive session, so you will need Teams (or whatever, depending on the provider, check their requirements).

Edit: snap!

With a name like that, I’ll be extremely disappointed if she’s not also responsible for the hottest delta blues album of the year.

They will send a link 12 hours before. I can just download what’s needed if it’s not Teams or Zoom.

When I did mine they told me that it was Teams well (weeks) before. Check the providers’s info page.

I guess they might be using a web-based one.

It is interactive, she will need to see, hear and be able to speak to the group.

She has all those faculties intact and my laptop has the necessary devices. Just discovered it’s a Zoom call and they recommend the app rather than a browser.

Will download and test tonight.

Thanks all.

I predict an IT-based hissy fit on her part. She is a self-confessed Luddite and technophobe.

And speed monster!

Did one about 18 months ago on teams. Woman taking it got a bit frustrated with me as was suggesting how they could change things.

Haha, they’re like traffic wardens on acid. I bet that went down a treat.

Wonder if that was my elder daughter?

Yes,I was telling her how tricky it is when you are in a new town or city to know what the speeds are.
I suggested they painted the white lines in the middle a different colour for each speed throughout the country.
Was only as I was spouting this genius idea that I thought you are fucked if you are colour blind.saying that, the cats eyes at motorway turn offs are coloured

Think there is a road in Nottingham if I remember rightly when you turn off the motorway that seems to go from 30 to 50 to 40 every 1/4 of a mile or so.

Think it was Gloucestershire I picked as it was a fiver or tenner cheaper than elsewhere

Do they still do the pens and pencils observation question?
I am sure you would have had some comments on that one :grinning:

Can’t say I remember I remember it. She did explain about numerous lampposts in a row meant it was down to 30? In urban areas. I’ve since found out that’s bollox in some cases.
Also said I found it more dangerous constantly checking that I was keeping to 20 or 30. Again went down like a lead balloon

If there are lampposts and no other speed limit markings it is 30mph by default

Yes,that was one of things I learnt
It was quite an interesting couple of hours, there was definitely stuff in there I wasn’t aware of.

Probably wouldn’t be a bad idea if everyone had to do it every 5 years or so.

She mentioned a good speed / navigation app but forgotten the name as my sat nav is wrong in many areas now,and it’s only a few years old.

Have started using my phone a bit now which I’m guessing is bang upto date.
