Anyone done a speed awareness course?

How did you manage that being as enforcement doesn’t start until 10%+2, i.e. 35 in a 30…

raging denial. he was doing 37.

You expect basic maths skills in Warrington?

Loads of people claim to have been done for below 35 in a 30, I’ve yet to ever see any evidence that this has happened.

“Discretionary” is the word you’re searching for -

Guidance issued by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) suggests when enforcement action will be taken against speeding motorists – this is usually when the relevant speed limit is exceeded by 10 % plus 2 mph . However, this is for guidance purposes only, a police officer has the discretion to act outside it.

That’s from West Yorkshire, at the time Warrington was notorious for speedtrapping below the usual limit.

Except there’s zero evidence (vs anecdote) that any force ever actually deviated from that. Not a single person claiming it has ever provided proof.

Shouldn’t gone to court as there’s no way they would have convicted.

Pretty sure I was going between 30-35 when I got the letter.

It’s a road I’ve used hundreds of times going in and out of Plymouth, the speed I was doing wasn’t put in the letter,so I have no proof.

I do remember it was around 7ish in the evening, and road was pretty empty,so I could have quite easily been going over 35mph

Just realised as I’m writing this,that it’s a pretty pointless post. :+1:

Everyone’s sure they were doing 30-35 until they get the letter

How the hell can they fine you if they don’t say what speed you were actually doing? Surely that alone is justification for challenging.

Indeed

It was one of the things I brought up at the awareness course, though it was swiftly ignored, and we proceeded with the course

There’s no requirement to tell you the speed, only that you were speeding.

It’s later that the actual speed matters as it’s corroborating evidence and will influence the punishment. If you challenge it on the basis that they don’t tell you, they’ll summons you to court and present the evidence there.

99.9% of the time the tell you in the NIP, though as there’s no reason not to.

I’m sure they used to tell you,but people who I know down here who have got the letter also weren’t told.
The road I was on has average speed cameras that I wasn’t even aware of,and tbh,I’m surprised I haven’t been done earlier.
Maybe it’s just the static ones that tell you your speed

Maybe it’s a regional police thing. They tell you up here. Claire got one for 37 in a 30 with average speed cameras. Good job they did tell her the speed as she thought it was a 40 (dual carriageway with fences along either pavement) and would have done so repeatedly if driving that road again.

Maybe you should have done that is why you need an awareness course!

Is there a central barrier such that you couldn’t roll a ball fully across?

Alma Rd?

I never personally met Adolf Hitler, but anecdotal evidence suggests he existed anyway.

The fact that 10%+2mph is the usual yardstick doesn’t pre-empt different forces operating occasional (or in Warrington’s case, pretty regular) crackdowns to make examples of drivers for publicity purposes, usually with mobile cameras in known blackspots.

It happens - why the fuck wouldn’t it?

Manadon to Mutley road

I’m pretty sure there’s more than anecdotal evidence of Hitler existing.

I’m not saying it didn’t/doesn’t happen but for all the claims, not a single person has ever provided evidence. If you have some, there’s about 2000 people on Pepipoo would have you as their hero.

Anyway, Godwin’s has been achieved, so end of thread. :+1:
