Chelmsley Wood?

Love the casual, almost laid back staircase. The grounds fit in rather well too.

I grew up in Solihull. Lovelace Avenue (along with Lady Byron Lane) were the two most exclusive roads in the town and had some amazing properties. iirc Jonah Barrington, the Squash champion lived there in the 70s. But it must be as noisy as hell there now with the M42 running parallel nearby. It was noisy enough a couple of miles away.

I’d be surprised if it doesn’t go for more than that price.

My aunt and uncle had a fantastic detached house in Doncaster
Think it was built in the 60s,but internally was very 70s with floating solid wood stairs
The middle room on the ground floor was smoked glass walls

He saved his wages from ww2 and got into the furniture business, think he had around 17 shops when he died in the late 70s

They didn’t like kids, so the 3 of us had to be on best behaviour when visiting

They preferred cats and donated large sums to charity.
When they died, the will was used to buy a RNLI lifeboat I think in humberside

Wish I had pictures of the inside

Ot but the lifeboat bought was in 1996 for Rosslare, no idea where I got Humberside from. Its still in use

Dave: nice stroll on the common

I think you’ve got your priorities right. Altho, that sculptural concrete fireplace

Are there many similar places like this in London area, I’m sure I’ve seen some elsewhere

Where I live (SE21), yes, lots of 60s estates that look very similar.

But Dave wins on architectural importance by a country mile, and 10 years earlier, (partly) hence the importance.

Fantastic places, but totally agree on the fireplace

Just been reading this nice little pamphlet from The Modernist magazine about post-war architecture in Wales.

The refurbishment of Llandaff Cathedral looks particularly bonkers :+1:

Apparently I live in a ā€œmodernist gemā€ now (pro-tip: I don’t).

My thread-crapping should be obvious.
