I’d like to schedule Nadine Dorries for demolition at 2am on Sunday. I don’t think they’ll be any objections as she is offensive to many and a blot on the landscape.
She crawled out of the slime so not sure she has relatives.
Not really sure why you would want to keep it.
Except as a reminder of how we fucked the North in the first place
That whole landscape could be used as a set for some post industrial horror film.
Bulldoze the lot
Slime begat slime
In your opinion.
So best to destroy it to enforce your monoculture.
Next up: A Love Supreme. Just sounds like someone chucking a load of cutlery down the stairs. Best burn the master tapes, right?
Don’t come whining to me when the only thing you’re allowed to watch on TV is Dad’s Army and Only Fools And Horses (these aren’t random selections)
Just because something was built doesn’t mean it should be kept forever, otherwise all inner cities would still be slums.
As for the Dorman Long tower I think that decision should be made locally by the people who live with it not by dilettantes who don’t.
Looks as if General Electric will be making wind turbines there. Not sure that the industrial nature of the landscape will change much.
Possibly not but employment prospects for the local workforce will.
Land is finite and change is a constant, particularly on industrial areas.
Goole docks has changed beyond all recognition in the time i’ve worked here, thank God.
Sad, but true.
Aaaannnd, straw man! Yay!
Historic England (and a couple of other bodies that have a statutory role in this kind of thing) are dilettantes now?
Finally, of course, the decision was made by an ideologically-driven politician. Result
Of course, it’s should always be about the will of the people. Although, doesn’t that phrase ring a few bells?
Personally I’m really looking forward to a future where divisive one-offs are destroyed out of hand so the future isn’t even allowed to look at them to make its own mind up. That’s gonna be epic.
Hope you enjoy Mrs Brown’s Boys. Cos that’s the monoculture will-of-the-people future.
I have no idea why you are conflating this discussion to crap TV.
I have a choice about what I watch (Mrs Brown is indeed the lowest of the low!).
I don’t really have a dog in the fight when it comes to the tower, I will never go there and it has no impact on my life so I don’t really care if it stays or goes. Presumably those that want to keep it would be happy to pay for it’s maintenance or do you think it falls within the remit of England Heritage or the National Trust?
I drive past this derelict horror on the South Downs quite regularly, there are people who want to ‘save’ this too.
Because it is all part of the same populist culture war programme. Anything that doesn’t fit a very narrow (white, conservative) version of “British” gets destroyed.
And the Tories would like to take that choice away from you, and ensure that you watch
distinctively “British”
programming, such as
Only Fools and Horses, Dad’s Army, Carry On.
More recently, The Great British Bake Off and Line of Duty.
And of course Coronation Street and Eastenders.
In the area of architecture the Tories are enthusiastic destroyers of anything that doesn’t meet the chocolate-box, Spitfires and cream teas mould
This is being enacted by
They had one go with Roger Scruton (Witchfinder General of all things modern), who subsequently died, but this has recently been resurrected.
Don’t for a second think that they won’t eventually come for your books and your music.
I note that you have systematically ignored every point I’ve made so I’ll be bowing out now.
Apropos of nothing, that lump must have some back story if there’s a campaign to leave it standing.
I’m not sure whether I like the Dorman Long building or not, but I certainly object to the way that it’s being delisted and immediately demolished. There should be a lot more process for that, or everything will go.
We seem to be very good at keeping certain parts of our heritage while actively destroying others. Until the preservation systems actually have some teeth and money (“not looking after this building? Right, you lose it and we fine you enough for us to remedy it”), this kind of thing will go on and on.
I quite like both those derelict horrors. That’s all I have to add
Exactly what Guy @Gyroscope was saying. The keep element being driven by a fervently right wing autocracy at the moment.
It won’t end well.
The local Tory MP supported the listing, so that’s the local bit done. His support was wiped from the pages of history when that anus eating cunt told him to. Them she decided to destroy it.
Taking back control, as long as that control is in London.
Fucking cunts.
For a new wind turbine manufacturing facility being built by LM Wind, a subsidiary of GE renewable energy. They could have accommodated this in the plans. Looks like the new Tory super Mayor or the region was the one who called the anus eater into action.
One of the more out there manga films
I heard on the News Quiz tonight that the right honourable member for Mid Beds had been ‘chewing on kangaroo testicles’. So which is it? Ostrich anus, kangaroo balls or both? The public has a right to know.
Now demolished/erased/cancelled right on schedule
