A stunning house in a stunning location.

Interesting one here, a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright just before he died that’s finally been built:

https://www.dezeen.com/2025/03/20/final-usonian-home-riverrock-frank-lloyd-wright-ohio-completed/

Looks to have remained pretty faithful to an FLW aesthetic, which is quite interesting considering the design is at least 65 years old. I wish the article had gone into a bit more on which elements of the house meant that the originalists are unhappy about it. If solely that building codes have changed and must be complied with, it seems mealy-mouthed.

More images and videos can be found here, and it would appear the house is available to rent too (and not as madly priced as I would have expected—sure ~£600 per night isn’t cheap, but for what it is, that seems quite reasonable):

Edit: And for the computer science nerds, I did misread the name “Dykstra” and wonder if it was a relative of Edsger Dijkstra.

That’s fabulous, I’m glad someone’s finally taken midges into consideration.

I love all of his houses, especially Fallingwater. I really want to live over a waterfall.

I went to school here until I was about 10. Not sure why this article has just popped up as it was completed a couple of years ago now. A lovely renovation though.

I read that the refurb / conversion this is now completed - there is an extensive review in the FT of last weekend.

I hadn’t realised that they had David Chipperfield on the job - check out his refurb of the Neues in Berlin if you get the opportunity

worth the price of entry on its own IMO.

It’s all-suites, from £1400 a night

Pleased that survived mostly-intact, always loved the architecture - it somehow never felt discordant, even though it was hugely different to pretty much anything nearby. Very Scandinavian - not allowing the architect’s ego to overwhelm the locale :ok_hand:

Actually, damn it, why shouldn’t I stay there, at least for one night?

I’m tentatively starting to flesh out plans for my 60th and I think this one might be a bullet point on the list.
