Internally it was ugly, at least the parts I saw.
It was notoriously inhospitable and unwelcoming, had to go in person for a visa app, and open-rudeness + infinitely-forgettable beige shabbiness went hand-in-hand there.
Sounds like an American airport
Yep, very much so, just less spacious.
Trained very briefly at the American embassy in 1982.
All I remember was all security had guns, and the burgers were massive
Tom Cruise type duties?
Afraid it’s still classified
And both would kill you equally well.
Drove down to Oxford today for a stroll around and had almost forgot, not only how good everything looks, but how well it’s all laid out and so easy to walk around. Everything just works proportionally, the scale of the buildings, the spaces between the buildings.
Also found a few books whilst I was there.
Only had a quick flick through but this is my favourite diagram so far.
I’d call that a perfect day.
Even the new additions are high quality, not an easy thing to pull off in such a setting. Couple of my favourites - Nial McLaughlin and Herzog and Demeuron.
Yeah they’re both great. The whole city is really. Maybe there needs to be a perambulation guide to the colleges and buildings. I need to go back and spend a night or two there and really take it all in anf get into as many colleges as i can .There’s still parts that if it wasn’t for painted double yellow lines you really couldn’t tell it wasn’t the 1700’s.
It’s a shame that I didn’t take as much notice of when me and my mate used to sneak into the colleges to get cheap pints from the student bar when I was studying
Did you see this one?
Classifying Bloomfield Hills as “Detroit” is a bit misleading, it’s one of the most affluent communities in the USA.
Very nice house
Never in the flesh. The real deal.
Years ago we did a coach trip and tour around St Catherine’s with the C20 society.
It’s quite a thing, but you have to be very careful how you spell gesamtkunstwerk.
Went to see the grade A listed stand at Gala Fairydean Rovers F.C.
