Years ago, I had a VW Lupo called Lucy. A 1.4S. I drove a Lupo GTI and that thing was fucking rapid.
And forgiving- just like A2. Anyhoo; I wonder what an A2 would be like with the 1.6 Lupo GTI lump.
No substitute for cubic inches, innit! ![]()

Various VAG engines have been transplanted into A2s: 1.8t, 1.9PD and various versions of the small petrol engines including the Lupo GTI lump. Crazy numbers easily available from the first two but I’m sure option 3 would drive a lot better. Or you can go full banana and fit a Busa engine ![]()
Honda K20 for the win ![]()
I’d stick with a 'busa and save the 60+ kg at the front - more in keeping with the rest of the car than a mega-bhp conversion for me ![]()
Jenny Eclair is brilliant here. As is the appearance of A2. Not so crazy about anything else.
Edited becoz mistakes, innit. ![]()
Just looking through the A2 Owners Club and wondering if any 1.4TDI owners here have had their Oil Pump and Balance Shaft chain and tensioners changed?
Alison’s were changed in October 2020 at 243,000 miles as was the clutch. At that time, I had put 117,000 miles on her:
Time to change the thread title to Trigger’s A2, non?
AFAIK my car has not had that work done. It is on 148k and isn’t making untoward noises. The DMF however is beginning to grumble, I suspect.
Not sure what the mileage is on FoL2’s 1.4 TDI - I’ll check
It’s an odd one. Well looked after units have been known to shit themselves and scarcely maintained units get to 200,000 miles without problems!
I’m gonna get mine changed every 120,000 miles. Got a while to go! ![]()
I’ve seen some of the threads on A2OC, definitely not something you’d want to go wrong!
Yes, I first became aware of it through the OC and some scary stores on a Skoda forum.
Still, compared with newer cars with all the complex emissions stuff, these are dependable! ![]()
Definitely.
Mine, TDI90, has the dual mass flywheel and the variable vane turbo which are both known weak points and also becoming harder to source parts for so at some point I’m going to have to deal with those but right now all is well!
Points to note for FoL2 - I need to find a way to talk these over with her without scaring her silly…
Mileage is obviously a factor for both but re the turbo, oil change frequency and a little thermal respect goes a long way. I wouldn’t worry unduly unless the car is showing signs of distress.
That’s good to know. She’s normally pretty gentle with it and has some mechanical sympathy - I’ll check what her mileage is though ![]()
HAHA! Oh dear - c’mon Stu - knock yerself out…
Meh !
Ugh…
