These speakers need serious power, doubt that the Sugden would get close.
I was at Dom’s place once with quite a few good quality valve amps (including mine) and they didn’t get the Snell As singing at all.
For those that heard them at Scalford the Modwright worked well with them, it would take something special to beat it I reckon

What amps were the As originally paired with?
The Plinius is a good shout. You can get 50w class a, or 200 a/b, so have both a summer and winter amp, and it sounds good.

That’s a good question, being American I would assume some horrible krell things?
To the other questions/suggestions, budget; no idea tbh. I have lost touch with hifi and prices. I guess a few grand if second hand/diy otherwise more for new but then it’s something I really really need to like to part with new hifi money.

My neighbour has Mk3 Snell A speakers which he runs off of Audio Innovation valve amps (monos)
They might be the 500 series but really can’t be sure. I think he said that they were an amp that Guy @murrayjohnson had a hand in?
Why not Bi-amp them? Avoid Krell maybe Threshold?

This man needs something inspiring to spend his money on. Not sure a grey box will do.
Summat with big transmitter valves that will inflict much death if you even look at them wrong. And maybe give of retina burning light levels too.
Or some Canary with a dozen 300B’s in.
Or some nice non diy Pass monos like htm has.
Or summat else.
