Depending on how dirty it is, a blast with a hose might be good enough. A pressure washer without snow foam could be an idea.

I find getting the pressure water out, plumbing it in, fitting the snow foam attachment!, mixing the snow foam a lot of hassle. And then undoing it all. I don’t have a nice garage and drive to leave it all set up.

Potm. Lol. It’s funny cos it’s true.

Does the paint have swirl marks?

No, I don’t think so. Cameron said the previous owner recently had it detailed and ceramic coated, so hopefully not.

:rofl:Donnas Dad would have done the same in his farming days in Devon :+1:

You could eat your dinner off that.

Thanks :upside_down_face:

Yes, there does seem to be several vids on youtube showing different methods Graham, which one do you use?
Also, I’ve heard that using pressure washers regularly can damage wheels, calipers etc, so maybe mains pressure with a trigger type garden hose might be better?

Sounds safer to never wash it at all :joy:

I’ve always used hand car wash places, because lazy fucker. Swirl marks are the inevitable result though

I’m determined to do it properly myself with the new Porker…but it’s been such a long time… :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve never cleaned a car with a ceramic coating (or applied one).

Once my bmw is waxed (and with very limited use anyway), I clean it with a detail spray and 2 or 3 very deep pile micro fiber cloths. As long as you keep on top of it (and only drive on dry roads) that’s usually enough. Push the cloth over the paint in straight lines and roll it up as you go to lift the dirt away. 15mins and I’m done.

If its properly dirty. Snow foam, and a jet wash will shift most of the crap before you need to touch it.
I’d wash it with 2 buckets with grit guards a decent wash mit and a natural car shampoo that won’t strip coatings and waxes. Gtechniq mits are excellent.

Once a mit has touched wheels it must never touch paint again. NEVER.

Jet washing can bugger up wheels if they’re scratched as you’ll force high pressure water under the paint / coating. Can’t say I’ve had that problem, been jet washing wheels for years.
Just keep the spray at least 6 inches away and you should be fine.

If you can , find out what coating is on it and then read what the manufacturer recommends to keep it clean.

Having stuff set up in a garage makes this alot quicker and easier than it sounds. I’m on my 2nd k2 karcher the first one broke after 18 months - they swapped it under warranty.

Bilt hamber for cleaning products.

Given it’s recently been detailed and protected you should be able to give it a light wash every couple of weeks / once a month through the summer. The more often you wash it the less crap will build up, the easier the wash will be and the less chance of swirls. If the ceramic coating is a long lasting one you might not need to put any protection on after the wash.

I agree with Graham about using Bilt Hamber for cleaning products.

You will need a decent microfiber or lambswool wash mitt. Gthangs recommendation sounds a good one.

A vikan or similar brand brush for the wheels and arches. Wheel woolies are meant to be good but a bit expensive. They may make the job easier though so could be money well spent.

I just wash the wheels with a brush and bucket of shampoo. Periodically, I use a wheel cleaner liquid or Tardis and iron remover on them.

Drying - silver is forgiving and doesn’t show the dirt or water marks as much - a couple of goes round with a couple of these should do it, they soak up water really well -

Yes. Get 2 decent dying towels. Throw the old chamois leather away.

Stripped the wax off the Zed this morning, cleaned the hood and then did a major paint decontamination. 3 hours including tea breaks and chatting to neighbours.

All set for paint correction. Somewhat apprehensive about this if im honest, old bmw clear coat is rock hard. Could take a while, but seeing as the fucker is sorn that doesn’t really matter.
I’ll try to take some pre cut swirl marks in a few areas.

I gave the Audi a quick wash earlier. I used one bucket do do the wheels with a brush. Then 2 bucket method to do the paint work. The finish kare paste wax has lasted well and I just rinsed the car with purified water via my resin vessel.
