Car Detailing Faff

Not sure, it had a few dents and could do with a new rear bumper cover. The Lexus and Mini are both sorn so motivation is zero. I have colour sanded cars before though in small areas.

That’s no excuse, my car is sorn, perfect time to do this when they’re not being used, can do a panel or 2 each day without working to a deadline.

Probably best not to compromise with your luxury saloon, sanding the whole car to start with makes sense.
Looking forward to the blog :+1:

It was wet sanded from the factory I think. Yay Lexus.

Car wasn’t too dirty after the return journey and a couple of outings. No rain, but it was sunny weather, so quite a few insects on the front.
Cleaned the car using QD detail wax spray, waterless bug remover and waterless wheel cleaner.
Seems strange cleaning the car with no water but looks to have buffed up nicely.

I did think that waterless QD was probably the best option. I wish I’d done that after I put the coating on.. I unnecessarily made life difficult for myself.

Pics, or yeah, great story.

Looks very nice indeed.
The trick now is to just keep on top of it.

I will be using it though Graham - it’s far too much fun to keep locked in the garage! :grinning:

Sure, just give it a spray and a wipe when you’re back home and you’ll probs never need to wash it (unless you do mega miles).

Looks good Jim. It sounds like the coating was gtechniq which I could have guessed / hoped. Those are both good brands. Meguiars is good value and no messing in terms of getting the job done. I’ve used gtechniq c4 to re-blacken my plastic around the wipers and it was superb. It lasted 2 years! I’ve just ordered more to redo it. I’ve got Meguiars degreaser, I use that on the wheels / arches or to shift stubborn marks. It never fsils to shift stuff. I’ve also had their gold class leather cleaner/ conditioner which was great vfm and did both jobs in one hit.

The products do generally last quite a while and you do get what you pay for. You may find that some products can be used for multiple jobs. It doesn’t generally get wasted.

If I see bug remover / windscreen wash for the windscreen washers in Lidl or Aldi I buy that. I had some decent wheel cleaner from there years ago. I’ve still got a drop of it left and used it when I did my wheels last week.

When you wash your microfibres / cloths after each use don’t use fabric softener.

Having a garage to keep it in makes a MASSIVE difference to being able to keep it clean.

Let me know how you get on with the gtechniq and which products you are using.

I nearly bought the Gtechniq Exo and Crystal Serum coating last month to put on the Audi after I polish it. But, I’m not quite ready to do it yet.

I could try their tyre blackener. I tried the Gyeon one. It was ok but didn’t last more than a few days. I was up and down the motorway at the time and that ruins most things. I just wash the tyres with a brush and leave them at that now.

I reread the reviews if that wax Graham. Wow. Sounds like a wonder product. Great value too. I must resist buying some.

It is incredibly easy to apply, a greasy film that just wipes on with the pad they provide. It buffs off with no effort.

I expect it’ll offer very little in the way of long term protection against the elements. I reckon it’ll need applying weekly on a daily driver.
But for a garaged, fair weather only car it seems to tick the boxes.
The gloss it’s achieved on the Zed is certainly deeper than double speed.

Finished, tfft. Can’t say I’ll be rushing out to do that again anytime soon, old BMW clear coat is hard as nails. Still it looks decent now, a legitimate first to see will buy car.
