Fantastic! You must be well please with how it’s turned out - you certainly should be, anyway

How does it compare to your other guitars?

Amazing mate. You have a real talent here.

It’s more or less identical to hold and very similar to play, largely because I’ve set them all up to my preference.
That said, the neck is a bit too thin for me really, it could do with being a couple of mm thicker - my own fault for carving away too much material.

I am however most impressed with the tone of the pickups, they’re powerful and not too bright. Cracking match for my little 4w single ended valve amp.

I’d like to try winding my own pickups, need to read up on that, bit of a black art by all accounts.

Basically the same as transformer winding so yeah, black art! Good luck, if you can get it working well, I imagine you could make money.

If you’re good you can for sure.
The UK is rammed full of boutque pickup manaufactures, as a country we’ve developed quite a repuation for high quality guitar pickups. Mojo operate an orderbook system which almost always closes after the first few days of the month.

Fwvliw here’s a few uk winders from the first google page.

Wow! Sounds like quite a mature market!

Yeah, the boat left 10+ years ago.

Rabbit holes everywhere!

Yep, guitar pups is a massive rabbit warren.

Thanks for documenting/describing your guitar build, I’ve been enthralled, intrigued and a little envious all the way along. We’ll done old son, a job well done, I hope it gives you many hours of pleasure.

Having another go - this time a Super Strat style guitar along the line of an Ibanez JEM (sans silly colours) with a multi laminate neck consisting of 9 separate pieces of wood.

Big slab of 48mm Ash, jointed, cut down and glued.
Thicknessed by hand to 45mm - love my 5 1/2 plane, I use it for everything.

Less words more pictures…

Can we have less of this porn. The envy and jealosy is strong, the admiration is off the scale and you think I’m joking.

Buggered up the neck position, 3 or 4mm too far into the body. That wouldn’t be a problem if I hadn’t already shaped the neck heal - for a neck pocket that didn’t exist.
I wonder how many i’ll have to build to not make silly process mistakes?

I need to lose that gap. (will no doubt involve a shit load of sanding)

More next month probably.

Graham, that is going to be a beautiful instrument when it’s finished, tiny mismatch between pocket and neck notwithstanding. Could you tolerate adding a small fillet that fills the gap?

One of the better tracks from The Fall album “Tory Procreation Horror”.
