I’ll say a bit more later after Dave leaves, but I fully stand by my earlier statement! :+1:

Photos man photos. :rage:

Did the wonky turntable achieve synergy let alone adequacy with the BTJ???

I suspect the magnetic field created a hole in the space-time continuum.

Dave’s just left so I can elaborate…

Let’s get one thing out of the way first: BTJ? Feckin right it is. I’ve loved Pete’s first LCR, the MWS 2000 for the last three years since I bought it from Matt, but the BTJ 9000 is in a different league!

It has more of everything - the hugely increased dynamics and resolution were the first thing I noticed, right from the first few notes but it also revealed a far more subtle side too. Vocals particularly took on a vibrancy which I’ve never heard before in my system - really natural and realistic.
Dave thought the bass was much better and I agreed - deeper extension but incredibly tight and well damped. Also mids to die for and a grain free top as well - in fact, superb tonality right across the board.
The image is beautifully well defined, which I like very much and focused just in front of the speakers, spreading out to the sides and backwards into the depth of the bay window.

All credit to Pete for designing and constructing such a wonderful piece of kit, I can’t think of any more superlatives to throw at it! I want one!! (which is great because Pete’s already agreed to make another similar one for me )

Thank you Dave for taking the time to bring it over! :+1:

A couple of pics:

We also tried Dave’s new Concert Fidelity pre-amp.

I see you have a Mk1 Dualit 4 slot toaster on your window ledge.

What will that be called?
STD-9000?

(That is Similar To Dave’s for all you dirty minded bastards!)

Not sure yet, if I go for the balanced version, maybe it would be BTJ 9000B. But… Pete is suggesting I keep with the single ended circuit, but use silver Slagle LCR inductors, rather than copper. This will add £2k or so to the cost. I suppose it could then be the BTJ 9000S.

I reckon it would compliment any decent TT, cart and SUT combo, but yes, it seemed to gel really well with my set-up. :+1:

Thanks Jim. That was the best I have ever heard your system, the bass was amazing. It is the best system I have heard in all the WigWam/AA systems at Bakeoffs and Scalford. You must get one Jim.

No point in spoiling the NCP24hr for a hapeth of tar.

I bet it sounded great having that depth behind the speakers. We were quite limited on that front at my bake but it still sounded spectacular. I am looking forward to another listen one day.

How was that?

It was good - very highly resolved, in many ways similar to the Preda. In the context of my system though, the top was a bit strident. Maybe not a good match with the plasma tweeters.
Dave said that the treble could be tuned by rolling the tubes…

Yes it was not the best match for your tweeters but with some material it sounded great. It is very dynamic! It would need a couple of Mullards to sound better in your system. I have Amperex Bugle Boy 12au7, RCA 5814 Black Plate Triple Mica, Mullard cv4003/m8136 Box Plate and Phillip Silver Plate Triple Mica all arriving next week. Should be interesting.

Tinker man is back :grinning:

Where do you buy your valves from Dave ?

Hong Kong, Uk and the States.

Having just re read this thread I thought that it deserved an encore … For Epic-Ness Reasons…
