Computer games and that

Did you just say ‘Kick Off 2’!!!

Hope you’ve got one of these, age 10-14 was pretty much my life.

Played Monkey Island 2 with the kids this morning. Lots of laughs (it still makes me laugh). They loved it!

Also played Lemmings (using dosbox)…not what I bought the 2nd Pi for (squeezebox player with usb dac/hp amp and occasional CD ripping) but lots of fun.

Played Populous II a bit last night too.

No Mass Effect?! I call bullshit. At least it had Oblivion in the list.

I stopped playing games just before that list - think the last I played was Thief II, which I absolutely loved (was so atmospheric and remember thinking how crazy it was that I was scared by a computer game), Shenmue on the Dreamcast, and Half Life.

Would quite like to check out some of those. GTA San Andreas I remember thinking sounded great but never got round to it. Shadow of the Collossus sounds intriguing. Silent Hill 2 and Elder Scrolls sound v cool but I’m guessing they’ve been superseded.

I’ve actually been debating whether to get a gaming PC or a PS5/X Box. I always used to prefer PC games as I played a lot of combat flight sims (MS Combat Flight Sim, F22 Raptor, etc) and driving games (Colin McRae rally) - and had a joystick/throttle and steering wheel/pedals set-up, and also games like Civ II, Caesar, which never had console versions. Am guessing things have moved on though.

Rez is superb - everyone should try it

Lying in bed the other morning I distantly remembered buying this

when it was cheap on the Playstation store, playing it for 15 minutes before I ragequit then never looking at it again.

I re-downloaded it last weekend, waded through the cumbersome opening bit and now have basically have done nothing but play it all week.

Once you get past the portentous “we must battle thee beasts of the mountain of Kwangor” dialogue, it’s a well-balanced loot & shoot.

Cheap (like, 12 quid cheap) on the PS store now. It looks like there’s a sequel lined up for next year.

I want an update on your experiments with Terroir @TMC. That’s right, Jon bought a vinyard simulator.

If you buy a PS5 and have PS+ it’s free, and has a 60FPS patch too
You get 20 free ps4 games

I’m just having a bash on ps5 Hitman 3.

Never played any of them, ever. It’s about time some proper new titles appeared for it, not just upscaled oldies or ps4 upgrades.

Haven’t actually played it yet - completely forgot I bought it!

Loved the original, I imagine this is much better.

This very long thread is a great read

Absolutely fascinating, thank you. It’s amazing to think that games could have single developers back then compared to the hundreds if not thousands that modern titles require.

Was having a pint casually browsing for retro yesterday

Saw this, knew what it was and bought it instantly with no offers.

It goes for £400-800

Seller was selling a load of car parts and random retro junk.

Sorry m8

Finished reading and immediately installed a Spectrum emulator on the Pi

Sadly the Ultimate Play the Game and Codemasters files seem to be hard to come buy.

R-Type on the Spectrum has a special place in my heart because the last time I remember pissing my pants as a kid was from not being able to tear myself away from playing R-Type, when I was almost certainly a bit too old to piss my pants.
