Covfaffe - the road to despair, calling at futility and disappointment

Of course you do.
It isn’t aimed at people who have 1500 spare for a machine
More like the mobile phone model.
You rent it. And at the end of the rental period it is yours.
But you get use of it from day one wirh a three month get out clause.

I expect refurbed ones will be cheaper to buy which will be the three month returned ones.

It’s about as un-third wave as you can get in Italy. You either have to embrace the dark roast or forget it.

This is really nice. I really like the lightest roasts and never like any of the medium roasts quite so much but this one is up there for me.

Only problem is I have the grind sorted for my smaller filter and for the Blue Bottle I need to dial in a finer grind as it really has a quick flow through that one. Obviously, I forgot to alter the grind size and was a bit disappointed when I made a larger cup with the Blue Bottle. Will have to try to remember in future.

I love cashew nuts, which they have listed as a tasting note. Maybe it’s the nutty type flavour that is doing it for me. I’ll keep an eye out for that in future and try to pick some up with similar tasting notes, to see if this is the case.

Tempted to try. What’s your brew method?

My smaller dripper (I was calling it a filter lol) is some homemade thing I picked up from Etsy but is based on a V60 I believe. For this I use a 5 stage pour method that @Wayward showed me via video tutorial. I’ve used this ever since and find it good and easy to remember. I only used 10g of coffee with this dripper and use 180g of water, with each pour being 36g (no doubt @Wayward will now tell me I’ve tempered it incorrectly).

For the Blue Bottle dripper I follow the method on their website for light roasts and use 22g of coffee for 350g water, first pour is 60g, them up to 150, the two further pours of 100g each. Nice and quick and produces a nice clean cup, though with this last one I had it too coarse and it was a bit sour.

I’m no expert with this and with some beans have not been able to pick out the stated tasting notes. When I can I always enjoy that coffee more. Maybe that’s just because I’ve hit the right spot with the grind compared to other beans, not sure.

Looking on their website I don’t seem to be able to do it. This is from the subscription and maybe they don’t have those beans available outside of that?

That’s a bit annoying as if I try one I like then I can’t then repeat the order!

Maybe due to volume produced, who knows.

I might try this one to see if the nut theory is accurate, as it has similar tasting notes:

I didn’t really get on with pour over, prefer aeropress. I’ll keep checking Rave to see if the restock

Just had my first cup of this one and again it was a very easy cup for me to drink. I think I’ll keep an eye out for any nutty tasting notes in future.

Tasting notes:

Cheesy name but really good espresso…

Last of the 3 bags.

Having not had any beans for a while, I got the below last week.

I was quite excited, I could actually taste the fruitiness described in the tasting notes!

However irony of ironies, I don’t actually like it

I kind of want to move on to a different bean though can’t countenance chucking a full packet of these. Think I’ll stop being so fussy and just get through it.

Naturals can be very polarising. I don’t like it when the funk levels are off the charts.

Interesting, didn’t realise it made a difference. Now I think about it, I think all the ones I’ve previously had have been washed.

Serious coffee at Sciascia Caffe 1919 in Prati, Rome.

Really nice place.

Coffee not that different to what Mark was serving at Lopwell. (A compliment to this place!)

Washed, single origin, from a known microlot.

What is not to like? Exactly the sort of coffee I order all the time

I’m going to dig my aeropress out over the weekend.

I’m wary of becoming institutionalised by the fucking Nespresso lifestyle.
