There is a coffee event in Brighton in a week or so.
Surprised to find there is an entrance fee.
Would you pay to go to an event like this?

Lazily making some builders coffee from a tin of Nescafe Azera with a best before of December 2022. Proper middle-class cunt behaviour.
The last time we had builders in it was three teas and one coffee, then they saw how the coffee was made and it immediately switched to four coffees.
My gardener asked for a black coffee, I offered Americano or V60
He tried both.
Now he is asking questions about grinders
I passed on the same though did think about it , I keep it for when my ma stays , ran out of beans over the weekend off to France Thursday so plumped for Tetley which will be story all week. Bad planning
Has anyone tried a Fracino machine ? Had a fantastic coffee from a trailer using one of their machines last week.
Their dual boiler home machine looks a similar price to the Sage equivalent.
Have you got a link Pete?
Trying to work out which model you mean.
The Piccino model looked like a good option.
The PID version which seems equivalent to Sage DB is £1239 which is competitive
Anyone given these a go?
Got this last week - very disappointed. It was a bit more than Iād usually spend but I was enticed by the tasting notes. Having made several different brews trying different grind settings and pour ratios, Iāve not been able to get anything resembling them. Itās not a bad coffee but just tastes a bit āgenericā to me.
Yep, they used to have a cafe in Clerkenwell Road, opposite the HQ of my previous employer. They closed it, then opened another outlet in Fitzrovia. Very good roaster, I have had some amazing coffees from them. But my impression is that the bean was expensive due to their London locations.
Iāve ordered 3 bags from them to try. Pricing seems OK really. Not had the balls to try somewhere like Sweven yet where it really does become stratospheric and because fuck these tiny bags of coffee.
Yes, after I posted I looked at the prices and they didāt seem so bad. I used to go and get the coffee from the outlets, so maybe it was more expensive because of that. It was usually very good though. Iāve had some spectacular coffees from them.
We got that on our subscription order last week. Works out a bit cheaper than that, but I would agree itās nice enough but doesnāt stand out.
Alright you bastard, this has kickstarted a long and expensive process (involving an order to someone travelling from NY to London in April, who managed to lose it, and then finally to a friend on summer holiday in LA coming back to London) whereby I am now finally the owner of a Bluebottle dripper - and a zillion filter papers (after all this time and effort Iām not running out soonā¦).
I havenāt yet brewed with their recommended method as Iām not sure what grind setting to use (it took me long enough to get the right one for the V60/Kasua method - and only after @Kevin suggested making it much coarser than Iād been doing for Hoffmanās method (#39-40 on the Wilfa Uniform, as opposed to c.20 for Hoffman/other pour over methods)). So I wonder how much Iām going to have to play around to get it right for this.
So in the meantime I just brewed my usual V60/Kasua alongside the Bluebottle/Kasua. I have to say that I couldnāt really detect any difference in taste, but I agree with:
It definitely is a bit cleaner.
One caveat is that Iām not using the best filter paper in the V60. I accidentally bought the unbleached green packet which I immediately noticed wasnāt as nice as the bleached pink packet.
Also Iām very disappointed in the coffee (Origin - Las Laderas) - it didnāt taste great to start with and itās only been opened about 2 weeks and itās already tasting a bit burnt. But I used the same in both so itās a fair comparison.
Tl;dr - itās a bit better in this first round. Iām interested to see how itāll improve once I start using their recommended method (once I sort out the grind setting).
I use their method with that dripper as itās simple and I was happy with the result. I suspect the special bit is the dripper design.
I really like it .
How fine is your grind? (Ooh errā¦)
Like sea salt.
