I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I can’t find it through searching. What’s the view on buying a cheaper (knock off?) designer chair (e.g. the Eames recliner, or a Barcelona Chair) through, say, a company like the below, as opposed to through someone like Vitra?

Feel like I remember general feedback was that the non-Vitra ones weren’t made well, but not sure.

Basically I’ve redone my study and really want one of those but can’t afford Ā£xxxx for one.

Repro Eames were legal until 2016ish when the copyright law changed from 25 to 70 years after the designers death. Vitra is just a licensed reproducer no more real than anyone else’s though the quality will be reflected in the price.

I’ve had my repro Eames for about six years, I paid Ā£500 for it from a friend who paid around Ā£1200 new around four years before that. It still looks as good now as the day I got it from him. He bought after seeing it in the showroom. It was a place near Stirling I’m sure but I can’t remember the name of it for the life of me.

That site you posted looks a bit too cheap to me to be getting good quality I’d be expecting to pay double that for something half decent. I’d be looking for something where you can go see it if possible or at least has a bit more of a focus on quality. Maybe somewhere like here

Also now interested in Eames chairs, although my wallet is less interested.

Noticed the above site has some reasonable clearance deals.

Yeah I saw that site and was going to link to it, but then saw the other one was half the price again. Didn’t know if there was a sliding scale of quality or if it was a Go Vitra or Go Home kinda thing.

The hotel we’d stay in for the Munich show had some Eames chairs in the bar area. But I always felt too tall to get comfortable in them and I’m not that tall. 6’2"

It’s worth reading reviews on Eames copy quality - these are many very nasty Chinesium types that look utterly awful with a worse build quality.

Get a mirrored one for £850

Probably should be doing something more constructive that search tv fireplace stands.

That’s a bit 2002 and for my tastes - my mum would have loved it mind!

I missed this at the Bristol show last week. They’re really going for that mid-century look.

Quite funny that it doesn’t appear to have a radio or a gramophone in it.

Best one of this all in one types was a massive 8 or 9ft one that had been bespokely made to take quad, garrard and full range Goodman speakers at each end.
Think he got it made by Heales in the 60s or 70s. The wife was hoping to get £500 or more for the unit after selling the hifi bits separately,of course it was pretty useless unless you had the same system to fit back into it.

@Ruprecht will remember it

Ā£3,000

Think I saw it in that YouTube link you put up of the show

Remember that the speakers were Axiom 80’s - Actually decent things.
