Dicking about with crap old cars

Bugger!!!

Will you rebuild it yourself??

Probably not, I just don’t have enough time to commit to that.

I know a man who can, DVA Power is local to me if youve heard of him?

I know Dave Andrews. He worked the emerald ECU that is in the car. Didn’t think he was extending as far as work that bit though. Where is he based again, as the car is being stored down south for a bit, so I could reach out to Dave and see if he’s willing to knows someone that would be

Milton Keynes. I grew up round the corner from Dave, I used to work for him in the summer stripping and cleaning the K series heads that he worked on. Always crazy spec cars on the drive!!

I’m not sure is he still does full engine builds but worth a message. I’m sure he will know someone that does in any case

Yeah I’d have likely reached out to Dave anyway just to see what he thought

Looms in, still working, which is nice.

Spoke to Dave today…. We are on a path to at least getting it looked at.

To be towed behind?

I was dicking around with my old car when i heard a bit of a bang and a jolt of the ole Landy. Some chap had reversed into my open rear door.

On inspection, their was a minor mark to the paint on the bottom corner which just adds to the patina.

The chap was very apologetic, aparently it was all in his blind spot, you know, the one that’s the same size as his careless driving! Releived he hasn’t caused any damage he popped off to the Opticians (tell me about it). I didn’t have the heart to point this out to him

Awaits claim for you reversing into him :face_with_peeking_eye:

Perhaps he was amazed when in his rear view mirror he saw how much stuff you have managed to squeeze into the back of the Landy.

Fridge/freezer in and working.

That’s a wrap until Boxing Day.

Twenty years ago I fitted a Vauxhall sohc engine to my old Skoda Rapid. I sold the car to a friend last year and he’s really put some miles on it. Anyway the rear oil seal was leaking badly so on Friday I pulled the engine.

After removing the clutch and flywheel the oil seal was found to be leaking and duly replaced but unfortunately the flywheel ring gear is a bit chewed up. Haven’t got a new ring gear but we have located a spare flywheel that will need machining to fit the Vauxhall engine. Looks a bit rusty but it’ll clean up ok.

Anyway I was getting bored so I went to the workshop after dinner and made a start on the dowel I’ll need to line up the two flywheels.

I had stop part way because the lathe started making some nasty noises. Traced it to the gearbox at the front of the lathe but as I do most things manually it’s now locked in neutral for the time being. Another thing on the list to be fixed when I retire next year :slightly_smiling_face: I’ll finish the dowel tomorrow and then we’re just waiting for my mate to pick up the flywheel.

Your Harrison is a nice looking thing
Looks just the right size for a petrol-head’s workshop with the gap to swing a flywheel as well as all the smaller / longer jobs - hope it’s a straightforward repair!

Thanks Husky. I’ve had it a long time and it’s served me well. Taken a lot of abuse from me as I’m not a pro machinist by any stretch and do tend to cock things up now and again  It’s really nice to use and I’m used to it so I’m in two minds whether to overhaul it or trade it up next year. I kitted it out with a big single phase motor when I first got it as I had no three phase in the old shop. I kept the original motor and I think I’ll put it back on if I keep it as reverse can be a handy thing to have :slightly_smiling_face:

Didn’t have much time yesterday but I managed to finish the mandrel needed to line up the two flywheels.

Here’s the replacement flywheel after opening up the centre to fit the Vauxhall engine. It’s a bit rusty but the ring gear is good and it’ll clean up. Beggars can’t be choosers as they say.

It fits nicely :slightly_smiling_face:

And here’s an old Vauxhall flywheel sitting on top of the Skoda flywheel so I can drill the bolt holes.

For anyone interested an Opel Manta spigot bearing fits the Skoda input shaft. Back at work today so it’ll be Friday before the job moves on.

Oddly a Harrison like yours just popped up for sale a few miles away.

A bloke I visited to buy some hi fi from years ago had an amazing workshop
He had a building the size of a 2 bed house at the bottom of the garden, upstairs was for storing metal and wood

Downstairs was all open apart from a dividing wall,on the left,a big Colchester amongst all the usual metal work tools. And other side all woodwork stuff.

He had totally rebuilt his rolls Royce engine

I’m sure it would have been far cheaper to buy another roller, but probably not as much fun.
