Would be disappointed if it wasn’t one of the talking ones. Must have a few tales to tell.
I think he’s very optimistic with the price, would a concourse Mondeo be worth £855? ![]()
Ask him if there is long left on the mot
Presumably it has about 20-30 cannabis plants growing in it.
An fun afternoon with [s]the Dukes of Hazzard[/s] North Cornwall Motor Racing Club on a blazing Sunday.
Most entertaining were the RWD/Specials which were the quickest and the ‘Rookies’ which I believe is the most accessible (ie cheapest to prepare) category but also the most chaotic with all contact allowed & encouraged it seems. Some of it does just seem like round & round but amongst the races here the rookies do provide some funny moments.
I was also impressed by the Drones they had flying round filming it. Incredibly quick & manoeverable. I went & talked with their operators who mostly build them themselves for outdooor & indoor drone racing. A whole new money pit to fall into should I ever be so inclined.
The audience here is also worth seeing. I was surprised by the woman who’d taken her cat for an afternoon of heat, noise & dust.
Something for the Weekend Sir?
I did manage to finish the GTM before I took some time out and we made it to the kit car show at Malvern at the end of June.
There are a few imperfections in the paintwork but on the whole I’m fairly happy with. It’ll do until it gets painted again next year ![]()
The Scimitar is finally rolling having had the brakes sorted, the drivers door hinge panel rebuilt and a whole host of other stuff done. I’ve just ordered a set of coil overs and a new handbrake cable to finish her off. The wheels have been blasted and powder coated and fitted with new rubber. With a bit of luck I should have her mot’d next week. Yes she’s exempt but I think it’s the right thing to do.
I don’t like stickers so they’ve all been removed. I’ve kept the RSSOC ones and I might just put the odd one back on, maybe.
Pointless trivia, but I used to live next-door-but-one to Graham Walker, who at the time owned the rights to all the Scimitar parts / tooling and so on (no idea if he still owns them). Never met him in person, but by all accounts a thoroughly nasty piece of work
I know who he is but I’ve never had any dealings with him. AFAIK he’s still in the Reliant business.
Thanks. There’s a chap who breaks mainly old Ford’s not two hundred yards from my workshop. When I was there the week before last he had three Scims in for breaking and a ton of parts from several others that he’s had for a while.
Insured this morning with Classic Line. All mods declared, SDP and 3k miles a year for the princely sum of 143 quid😀
These arrived a couple of days ago. I’ve already fitted the handbrake cable and the adjustable shockers are going on tomorrow. Rather than buy a new set I’ve had an old set of springs blasted and painted. Whilst the prop was off to do the handbrake cable I decided to replace the old leather pinion seal with a new neoprene one and ended up having to replace the drive flange too as the inner diameter of the seal is larger.
You can see the difference here. Unfortunately the larger drive flange in the pic has taken a bit of a beating so I’ve bought a new one ![]()
Well that was a bit of a cock up. The new drive flange had a slightly larger internal diameter and deeper splines than my original flange.
I ended up fitting the battered old one I already had after an hours cleaning and fettling.
The plan now is to machine a bush that I can press fit onto the original drive flange so it matches the new seal. It’s easy to make a few as it is to make one and I’m sure there are others out there who would like to use that later oil seal. I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t add some strength to the splined section too.
Fair bit of work done since I last visited. Springs and shocks are on and the radiator has been altered to suit the Rover engine. The standard rear springs needed a coil lopping off and reshaping so I could get the car to sit right.
. Dave at work made a good job the springs for me. They sit dead flat and fit bang on.
She’s mot’d and taxed and I’ve had her out for a couple of short runs. If the weather’s ok tomorrow I might just chance a run to Settle and back
We obtained a new crap old car to dick about with.
'07 with 75k miles.
Just done the cambelt, thermostat, pcv, and water pump. Fixed the roof issue and the hissing/popping noises from the stereo.
DSG service and fuel filter to be done at the weekend. And an aircon regas whenever. And maybe replace the Chinese ditchfinder tyres shortly. Loads of tread on them and they are 5 years old, but probably cheapest tyres available.
Alfa off to a new home soon-ish. Audi to be used for the wife’s short commutes.
Have loved the Alfa, and had some great trips in it. Will have the sad.
They’re utterly bombproof and a judicious couple of £K spend can turn them into a really fun, perfectly usable car.
So the recent purchase of 172 phase 1 isn’t looking great after having 20 minutes underneath it today.
small list of issues so far ![]()
Airbag light doesn’t illuminate and all the wiring underneath the front seats is either disconnected or cut.
Abs light is on. Had a very quick look with the front wheels of today and brackets that are supposed to hold the wiring is missing so the sensors are twisted out of shape. Don’t know if that’s the issue but certainly doesn’t help.
N/s caliper is sticking. Sliders appear to move freely but whoever last painted the calipers decided to paint over the rubber boots for good measure.
discs don’t look great from standing so ideally looking at a full brake job.
Tyres are cracking around the tread so they need replacing.
vibration through the steering wheel almost at any speed over 20mph and goes heavy. Steering doesn’t particularly feel great although suspension looks ok. maybe power steering pump
Cambelt over due by 5 years and auxiliary by about 7 as there’s no mention of it being changed since 2016
Gearbox crunches into third and clutch is very heavy and basically a on off switch
Exhaust is blowing and has been decated and welded together with what looks like scaffolding tube
Oil leaks everywhere.
Temperature gauge is super erratic. Don’t think it’s actually overheating maybe a bad earth as even switching the headlights on or doing the windows up cause the gauge to rise.
Blower motor doesn’t work on any speed
radio just displays an error message
rear fog light symbol illuminates when braking and flashes with the indicator
passenger window switch works backwards on passenger and drivers door control, pulling up puts the window down
key only works in fuel cap and ignition and central locking doesn’t work.
Not a bad list for the previous owner before the last had spent 12k on it before selling it and only covering about 1400 miles since. Think just the bodywork was looked at and the rest just ignored.
There’s bound to be more to be uncovered as i start taking stuff apart.
