Then you won’t get too much more out of it than apple tbh. I like seeing how friends etc are doing and sharing routes. But the data stuff is only great with a heart rate monitor. Then you can see what zone you are running in, adjust it for gradient etc. Useful stuff to glance over after a run. But then I do love a chart

All this depends. When I first started running I liked the data and used Strava and a heart monitor to track things. Its definitely motivating.

But once I’d achieved what I originally wanted to do I found that I just enjoyed getting out and running and wasn’t particularly bothered about improvement, more about just enjoying it. So I don’t bother with it these days and probably only take my phone and earbuds out at night but during the daytime I kind of enjoy not being ‘tethered’.

YMMV - its what you’re trying to do that’s important.

I’ll build this up to 20 minutes again over a few days, going to do some basic exercises that I can easily fit in around life again!

Good plan, build up slowly before you try to put the hammer down.

Seeing as the gyms are shut I’ve built myself a rack of sorts over the last couple of days. No adjustment but it is made to fit me. Olympic bar is on order and have borrowed some plates from a mate. I have 87.5kg (inc bar) which is ample, except for deadlifts - but I can’t grumble about that.
Had I thought about it i should have added a pull up bar.
Need to add some proper padding to the bench but otherwise good to go.

Excellent stuff! Much better than waiting to be told when you can train.

Yeah apart from the bar still feels cold the whole time!

You need some Bernie Sanders mittens.

I’ll go cold.

Know the feeling. The bar is bloody cold atm!

Looks like you’ve got a good selection of plates.
I’ve very luckily been able to borrow some. Plus decided to pay way over the odds for a pair of 20kg olympic plates to get the bar at the right height for deads.

Think I have four of everything from 20 to 1.25 then some micro plates as well.

Strange thing is it’s like two different sets as one lot are larger diameter but slightly thinner than the other lot. All bought at the same time.

Nice, I’d like 4 of everything then I could get a pair of olympic dumbbells. As it stands I have 2 of everything, I reckon plate prices have doubled since Covid, I paid £150 for a pair of 20s which isn’t too bad as things go at the moment.

Your rack looks smart too, I made my own it is a bit rough but does the job.

Jesus. I’m sure a set was £125 when I got it. That’s two of everything that I have, although I have no real memory of that now and I bought a cheap set. Also have some Olympic dumbbell handles there. I think the idea was to have deadlift at the side but my garage is full of crap so I just pull the trap bar into that space and do those. They’re easier as well, probably why I like them better.

Your gear would fetch very good money on gumtree at the moment.

I bought a pair of 20s from here, they’re listing the each price + £10 delivery, each!

They are good though - rubber coated so they dont’ smash the garage floor up.

I’m very luck a mate as let me borrow pairs of 1.25, 2.5, 5, 10s and 15s. Otherwise it wouldn’t be feasible, I don’t like being ripped off (a pair of 20s was bad enough)

A pair of 30kg dumbbells are now £200+

Pair of 5kgs = £50 ffs.

Fucking hell, it’s crazy. Yeah, mine aren’t coated. Just metal.

I’ve had real trouble with fatigue associated with my chemo for years. My oncologists and GP are unable to get it sorted. I was advised to exercise my way out of it a couple of years ago which was a disaster. That advice is no longer given to oncology or ME patients I believe.

Anyway, my other half had been complaining for years about me being a noisy sleeper so I had a sleep apnoea test last year. That came back negative (fuck) so I am still left with the fatigue. However, they did say that I could do with losing some weight.

I’ve knocked off the biscuits and sweets and really am focused on portion control. Since late October my weight has fallen 7Kg which was surprisingly easy. I’ll continue watching what I eat (as what I drink is not a problem) and hopefully will hit 70 kg by June which was my usual weight until I hit 40. I might not get rid of the fatigue but at least I won’t be carting 12Kg of flab around me when I exercise.
