Manhole update: I may have found one a bit closer. About 6ft away.

In my defence, it’s camoflauged and I forgot about it.

In that case the manhole (strictly speaking ‘inspection chamber’ since you’re not going to climb down into it) is indeed the place to be. The thing about gullies is that it’s essentially impossible to get substantial rods through them. Flexible wire-type things, hosepipes etc, yes. But for a proper blockage you’ll need to come from the other side.
