Mate, she’s apt to do this kind of shit at any given moment. Luckily, today I don’t have to deal with it because Claire and Lauren took her to Crosby beach, while I stayed at home sorting out some shit on my car.

Ruby had to go into the shower when she got home, because the tide was out so no chance of getting her clean at the beach.

Lauren froo-foo’d her using her £30 Chanel shower gel…:scream:

She smells awesome now!

Ruby looks so proud of herself.

Yes, she’s caused hassle to at least three humans and several hundred seagulls, so job done.

Beautiful dog, but isn’t she what used to be called a “water spaniel” (tautologous if ever a name was), my grandad had a big black-and-tan spaniel that was - with no hyperbole - fully and permanently aquatic. It proved wholly impossible to persuade it to leave the local river without wading-in and tying something around its neck. It lived to be wet. He sold it on, rare for him as the soft sod always got attached to all his animals, whatever their intended purpose…

No, but I know why you think so. If you go way back into the history, spaniels were divided into land and water breeds, and the early progenitors of both branches were big, ie Setter sized. Anyway Setters were developed from the land branch. Ruby is a Gordon Setter (aka Scotchish Setter) which is even more land oriented and is fairly typical in that she likes a good splash, but isn’t keen on actual swimming, although she can.

I think Water Spaniels have a good bit of poodle in them?

Funny was only thinking I haven’t set eyes on a setter of any kind in years a few days ago, and this afty we bumped into a lass with a young Red in the pub, and here’s yours of a type I can’t recall ever encountering before. Lovely dog in any case!

My English Springers absolutely love water, visits to our local beaches are always great fun. Whatever the weather, no matter how cold it is, they just go mental at the sight of water and it’s lovely to see.

Ruby loves the water, and will splash around like buggery, but hates actual swimming.

Setters were bred for crashing around in undergrowth and woodland to scare birds and rabbits out into the open so posh twats could shoot them. Spaniels were bred to clear up the mess the Setters and posh twats created.

So a setter is a dog for posh twats?

Sort of, Owned by posh twats, but generally they were operated by their beaters (employees), almost like the gun dog version of foxhounds. Possibly the more useless and pretty of them ended up as posh pets though. Spaniels were more likely to be the shooters (posh twats) personal dogs.

Ah, wondered why you had one :grinning:
