I completely disagree. 4 years of appeasement and normalisation of this behaviour has got us where we are now.
The core of his base were always going to stick with him. But their behaviour will peel more away than it will encourage to join, I think. He’s being forced to tell them to stop what they’re doing and go home. I can’t recall when he’s had to tell them they’re wrong before.

bonkers, he hasn’t said they’re wrong, 90% of his statement was repeating the lies and saying he appreciates what they are doing and he loves them.
It’s only a small minority doing this but they still cause chaos and disruption, sitting back and appeasing them under the premise it will peel more away is delusional.

The storming of the Capitol started while Trump was still speaking at his rally. These were fascist groups like the Proud Boys. They were there to boogie, they really don’t care about the politics. This isn’t going away, these people won’t be placated.

Too much of the western world is addicted to social media, and through it they are fed a carefully-algorithm-controlled foie gras diet of whatever it is most fun/easy to believe - truth is condemned as anathema, and anyone who can afford it can pay to influence the seething ocean of stupidity…
This shit isn’t just going to go away, we’re well past the days of One Good Man…

Trump has 14 days to defuse this or inflame it.
If he doesn’t defuse it there will be pressure on Pence to remove him from office.
How that will play out is anyones guess.
They have to get through tonight yet.
Who knows what will happen undercover of darkness.

Sounds about right. But that’s not every single one of the 70 million who voted for him. There were vote-for-anything-Republican grandmas and coal miners and libertarians and people who just like rallies. Every million he loses sees the gap between victory and defeat for him widen.

That’s how we see it, but we are not young, and legacies that live on forever are very much double-edged swords. History is whatever the last person who invokes it says it is. What we see as a shameful, horrifying affront to democracy will be portrayed by its fans as a time of heroism and popular Resistance.
These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long. Go home with love & in peace. Remember this day forever!
