Don't laugh - economical turntable suggestions please

So I’ve got two vinyls now.

I find myself passing up nice stuff from other artists because it’s on vinyl.

So I’m thinking of dipping a toe in the water. This is really not hi fi. Initially it would be plugged into a Sonos box that would immediately digitise the signal :grimacing:

On the other hand I don’t want a complete POS that would be a waste of money.

Something reasonable that’s easy to work.

I asked Allan @spacehopper about the deck he seems to recommend a lot, and that’s the

but at £649 it’s probably more than I’m prepared to invest in this endeavour. Say £300-£350. Having looked on Richer Sounds etc. this seems to be a hotly-contested sector.

Suggestions please.

I suppose that’s including a cartridge and a built in phono stage?

The intro AT decks. Or a used techie. reliable.

A Sony PS-6750 is a decent performer and won’t break the bank.

Don’t do it. Slippery slope. Give me your records just to be safe.

I’d go for this though

Rega P1+ has a builtin phono stage and ready fitted cart, literally just connect it to the Sonos analogue input

Yes.

I don’t know what that is.

I Googled it.

Yes.

Thank you for my learning.

I’m already eying up the Benefits in-store at Rough Trade East and the tickets all include either the LP or a CD (). Will you keep the Benefits LP safe for me too please?

I can attest to the decent nature of the AT LP5 I bought from @J_B

FYI, unless you’re under 20, they’re called records.

Yeah, but Guy has been hipster before it wss hipster.

Good choice with built in phono. I acquired one for a mate who has bought loads of vinyl since and is happy with the plug and play nature. Good simple instructions to set up too. :+1:

I’ve got this review sample still upstairs if you want to have a go? https://www.avforums.com/reviews/fluance-rt-82-turntable-review.21759/ I am down to my last 12 or 13 phono stages too.

Firstly, congratulations on getting into vinyl at what is almost certainly the worst possible time to do so. Ideally, go back about 30 years and start your collection then. You’re welcome.

Secondly, ‘vinyls’ should put your name on some kind of register, banning you from all places where records are sold. But we’ll let that pass, as you are one of us. Please don’t do it again.

If you’re not set on buying brand new, you can’t go far wrong with a used Rega.

Good luck.
