eBay stuff (Part 1)

Call me old-fashioned if you like, but it would be nice if the earth pin on the mains inlet was connected to something. Like the chassis, perhaps. I wonder if they’re CE marked ?

Where is your sense of adventure. Electrical goods manufactured in the EU not to EU standards, what ever next. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I blame the Chinese.

Yes, the lacing is quite tidy, if a bit OTT with the hitches. A real OCD specialist would have aligned all the running stitches though. It’s also nice to see that every solder joint has been individually lacquered, so they’ll know if anyone’s fiddled with it !

Aren’t theses a 1210 motor in drag? Nothing wrong in that, but it ain’t an SP10.

No - similar but not the same. They also use a now unobtanium motor control IC, although I believe you can buy a suitable replacement piggy-back PCB that can be bodged into place to duplicate the chip’s functionality.

Ah, in which case, think I’ll give it a miss

it would appear that the chassis is connected to the screen on the phono socket, which means you had better damn well hope the preamp phono socket is connected to safety ground

its basically a diy amp built from Hammond parts (not the biggest problem in the world tbh) by somebody with a background in crochet who skipped the lesson on electrical safety and grounding of audio equipment

or you can build you own amp inside the same chassis :+1:

possibly finally build that VFET kit I have :grinning:

If I had the skills most definitely!

And, if there’s a few tens of mA leaking from mains live to the chassis, that you aren’t holding said chassis with one hand when you pull the phono plug out of the socket with the other (the exact scenario which resulted in the worst electric shock I’ve ever seen).

Volts jolt and mills kills

(I always hear that in my head as said by my electronics instructor in his very broad Yorkshire accent)

Crap listing but great price if someone is local to test/view:

You mean apart from the big dent on the top left where it looks to have been dropped onto a hard surface. I would check the internals and try it out before parting with money.

Yes, hence my post ‘Crap listing but great price if someone is local to test/view’

“A few small blemishes” they look like they have been keel hauled!

I have a pair of these and a pair of the sideboard styled Model 70’s.

One of my top 5 all-time favourite loudspeakers. Sadly missing their Cyrus LFAU active bass crossover/amplifier but still…
