Bargain and beautiful SJS 300b over on Maverick.
It was a Bluebell Audio amp based on the classic circuit from Japan using 6SN7-6SN7-300B built using Hammond iron.
Ron supplied the new wooden case and transformer covers, and i designed the metal panels and rebuilt the whole thing in the new chassis with a few tweaks and parts upgrades along the way.
Sounded great, and fuelled the thinking that led onto the Model 5 and Model 8 power amps.

Did the designers of the top and bottom half ever actually talk to each other?
I’ve never quite got on board with the whole top loader CD thing.
I have always felt that is was about cost cutting rather than sonic benefit.

I can confirm what he said about servicing and upgrades to be true, and looking at my notes from 2020 suggest it has 2 x 5687 for the audio circuit, a 5Y3 valve rectifier, silver wired audio circuit, yellow Hovland MusiCaps on the output, and Noble volume and balance pots

The main problem (aside from the price) is that a number of key components (probably not-least, the laser head) will be unobtainium-in-excelsis at any price, at which point you become the proud owner of a large and effective paperweight or doorstop…
