Just had a quote for solar panels and a battery. Seems a bit spendy. The projected payback they indicate is 10 years. Will be getting another quote.

1 SUPPLY OF PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM (5.81 kWp) - - -
14 PERLIGHT PERLIGHT DELTA 415W 3,738.00
14 FASTENSOL ON ROOF PITCHED MOUNTING 756.00
9 TIGO TIGO RETROFIT FRAME MOUNTED OPTIMISER 585.00
1 GIVENERGY 5KW HYBRID 1,683.00
1 GIVENERGY 5.2KWH LIFEPO4 BATTERY 2,660.00
1 GIVENERGY EM115 METER WITH CT CLAMP 79.00
1 MINI CONSUMER UNIT SUPPLY AND INSTALL 350.00
1 MISCELLANEOUS ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION - HYBRID AND BATTERY 1,412.00
1 SOLAR INSTALLATION LABOUR 995.00
1 SCAFFOLDING 2,160.00
1 PIGEON PROTECTION 850.00
1 DNO APPLICATION AND INSURANCE FEES 175.00
1 DELIVERY 150.00

I doubt any of the old tarriffs will compare but my experience is that they are a decent company to deal with

About normal for a solar/battery combo at the moment, I would have thought.

About 6k more, than a year ago.

Ā£2400 install sounds high

This is on the high side for doing an existing install where a cherry picker is needed etc. For a new install, thatā€™s extortionate.

Canā€™t comment on the scaffolding as itā€™s particular to you.

I would also go for the larger 9.5kW battery.

Can you fill the battery with cheap electricity overnight? Is the software any good at sorting out likely power needs, likely generation etc?

Yes, you have full control. Solar forecasting is in development but you can do it today with Home Assistant and some scripts.

and can be installed on a Raspberry Pi

The weather appears to have improved to the point where the solar panels run more than just the LEDs on the inverter.

Possibly a good job, we had the first Octopus saving period notification for 5-6pm today. Not that it will make any difference for us given that we havenā€™t used any grid electricity outside od the 4 hour window for ages.

Probably time to drag it over here.

Slight eyebrow at the concept of auxiliary CUs for the batteries? Obviously you need a massive one to cope with all of the circuits that get involved if you electrify everything, but unless you are putting some circuits outside of the battery scope you could have them all on one?

Still early days yet? But yes

Yep, thatā€™s faff.
