Yes, I’d personally go for the best speakers he can afford, and just use a cheap cdp and digital amp, and build from there

You should get one with the TT, but the Audio Technica carts are decent and cheap.

The heco 800 ticks quite lot of the boxes, but again depends what his end game is

The Onkyo A-9010 integrated amp at £225 is a good choice. But no DAC.

The Elac always seem to be well thought of. Does make me wonder how a set up like this would compare to a old ES Sony/Kef 103.2.
