You could replace them with Mpingo wood, then you wouldn’t resonate so badly. At least with three though, you can always lie nice and level , so that’s good

@Valvebloke could a laser be deployed to ‘do’ the warming so a man could aim it from his chair instead of getting up to toast his cartridge without frazzling the damper?

When I borrow people’s Io, I stick a clipper lighter under the tip for 30 secs. Pretty sure it does the same thing, but without the burning smell I get.

You’d need a steady hand.
You might talk to these people. They got quite good at hitting expensive stuff at long (but not long enough) range. Your requirements should be more tractable. I believe the team may also be looking for work

Very, very frightening. But not in the way the concept people imagined. The light comes from a Chemical Oxygen Iodine Laser or COIL. My PhD supervisor summarised this as “a continuous explosion between two mirrors”. The purpose of the mirrors is to direct the power of the explosion out of your aircraft and into some other aircraft (e.g. a missile). It really isn’t clear which would be the safer aircraft to be in.
