I’m on it, I want a library ladder
1st thunk: “nice way to repurpose a disused civil service tea trolley”.
2rd thunk: “all the dollah - ALL of them!”
Some chancers out there, f’sure…

I’d buy that for a dollar
I really need to learn to weld.
I’ve always fancied learning too, I had a mate who was awesome at it, could do all sorts of exotic metals, all with those lovely flowing weld patterns, I should have asked him to train me up when I left the civil service, he used to get flown all over the place to do stuff in MotoGP and WSB. Yet another missed opportunity. FML.
There were a few welders on site when I was at work. Some were definitely better than others - it seems there is a knack, so it’s a bit of an art as well as a science.
One of the staff (a scientist, not an engineer) had taken a year out between the end of her first degree and getting a job and, among other things, had taught herself very basic welding. She reckoned anyone ought to be able to manage it to ‘good enough for farm-work’ standard with a bit of practice.
VB
Indeed. I can stick weld ferrous metal to an (arguably) acceptable standard but the ‘proper’ guys who use TIG on some of the more exotic metals are truly in a different league. Some of the MIG welders I have experienced are hugely capable too.
My dad was a coded welder, did stuff for a lot of UK nuclear power stations. He was a pain whenever we watched tv together… never mind how cool that car/bike/whatever was, ‘look at the state of that welding’! Was like the scene from the full monty
Every. Welder. I’ve. Met.
Tru dat.
I spent quite a bit of my time in auto OEM in the Body In White end of things and every fucking welder criticised every other welders work ad fucking nauseum!
In the end I went through welding training myself to better understand the standards required and how they’re achieved because if you listened to that bunch you’d think the body would fall apart the second it got hoisted on the conveyor let alone assembled into a car and driven.
Surely you had qualified welding inspectors, no?
Yes of course, but I wanted to be able to situationally shut these whinging fuckers up when they started up. Especially when a lot of my work was getting prototypes built either through the assembly line or in a bespoke prototype shop that ended up being one of things I was responsible for.
Nice, but not as nice as a Kondo fan.
Have linn playing cards, but need an audio note key ring. Can swap a audio technica bottle opener and 2 boiled sweets from Bristol 2015 for one.
I would happily give all three of my testicles for one of those playing cards.
