Hope nobody taken to the boats/sitting on their roof.

People here always say there’s no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing choices - but the real Canadians all seem to have about 20 different coats for all the variations.
@Professor_Chaos: is that an East Coast thing or does it apply across the country?
PS - one of my work colleagues has a son who’s just gone to his first posting in the RCMP - in a town called Arviat on the Hudson Bay coast: -31 overnight and -22 during the day ![]()
Metropolitan Toronto you see all sorts of people ridiculously underdressed for the conditions. But otherwise yes.
I own many layers of fleece, wool, and merino wool that can be combined with a rain/wind shell. For when it really gets cold a down puffy that can also be combined with the layers. And various light rain/UV jackets for summer.
Love me a bit of “technical outerwear” I do, mostly Outdoor Research brand, but also some Helly Hansen and Mountain Equipment Company house branded stuf
That’s mostly my approach too, I use a Patagonia shell ski jacket with variable layers underneath for much of the year, just switching to a heavier winter coat with down for the coldest days ![]()
