Great story
That was a really good read. Every day’s a school day
My brother sent me that yesterday, absolutely fascinating.
Used to work in Neal St in the early 90’s, his reputation was legendary but somewhat marmite - There was so much in this piece I didn’t know. I regret not meeting him (Used to see him about) Clearly he was a most constructive and interesting loon. The paper mache egg was the best thing I’ve read in a while!
I used to go to Borough market regularly, I assumed it had been a market for hundreds of years, not founded just before the turn of the millennium.
There has been a market on the site since the 12th century
I was drinking in the Market Porter in the 70s as it used to have weird opening hours like a lot of market associated pubs. You could be in London go to a pub then a club until 2.30 to 3.00 or so then the market pubs opened about 4.00 in the morning.
Even with the relatively tight licensing hours you could drink 24 hours a day in London if you knew where to go.
In my backpacking days this was exactly what happened.
A little inside knowledge from working in pubs helped.
An ex- expert
I used to like Thee George with the shard overlooking you in the beer garden
The other one across the Main Street on the corner was good as welll.
Pastry day today.
Savoury mince & onion slices and sausage rolls.
With a nod to the sausage roll thread
need to see a pic of one of the sausage rolls sliced open.
Think this may be the most appropriate thread.
I can understand the desire for square sausage or a Scotch pie, but a can of Tennent’s?
Would give it a go
I would have thought a price list would be scary to the average Scot
Overloaded my cheese & onion pasties and some filling escaped during baking but no matter, they still tasted good.
Hard to beat a C&O pasty and they look ace.
