See comments elsewhere about where to live, good gig scene and Brighton.
I thought (not least because of postings on this forum) that I had a reasonable awareness of the current music scene
However I find that I have never heard of any of the bands playing on 4/11
Saw her last Friday, she was very good. Her voice sounded much “fuller” for want of a better expression ,live than recorded.
From 4/11 I’ve only seen Dream Wife and Fat White Family. Dream Wife are great fun, but I just don’t “get” Fat White Family. This is probably because I’m old.
Having said all that, I actually plan to be in sunny Cork on that day so it’s all a bit academic
That looks so much like a staged photoshoot!
Could be an album cover.
Well that was very good. No idea who her band were, but they were tighter than a gnat’s what-have-you.
A bit of a flat start, but once you kick in with the bass riff of Arabian Nights it’s difficult to go wrong with a body of work like that.
Respect to
a) the troupe of flappers who came on dancing the Charleston shortly before curtain up. Absolutely brilliant.
b) the guy with all the tatts wearing nothing but a pair of football shorts and a waistcoat, both of which were about three sizes too small for him. 100% living his best life
Glad it was good as have heard varying reports over the summer, usually moaning about her voice
Probably the “dun’t sound like the album dun’t like it” brigade
Her voice was fine. It’s not what it was 40 years ago, but it’s not by any stroke of the imagination Paul McCartney / Elton John shot.
And the FT’s reviewer didn’t like this. Would have liked more attitude than musical chops
Half time at the local folk club. Album launch rehearsal for Auka’s second disc. Lovely sounds, relaxing yet invigorating like the first album.
You saw it here first
Nice cover
Well that was the loudest gig I’ve been to in a long time.
I’ve experienced plenty of trouser-flapping in the past, but I don’t recall much nostril-flapping.
When I went in security told me that “the system is down”. It took me a minute to understand that that meant the payment provider for the card-only bar was down globally. A glass of water and that’s your lot
Lucy May Walker is getting these handed out to everyone attending her gigs
- About time, great idea
- Control freak
King Crimson have been doing this for years, with the addition of no photos or filming. If you are caught, the band will stop playing until you get thrown out, either by security or disgruntled audience members.
The band hang around after the gig for photos and stuff.
It works.
I always enjoy watching people film the acts at Glastonbury.
Obviously they can get far better images and audio quality on their phone, than the dozens of qualified camera and sound engineers from the BBC.
Dead Can Dance used to do this in the 1990s. No talking, no smoking, no flash photography. Made for great gigs to record.
All depends on the artist. Personally I think it’s a bit condescending, people should already know how to behave appropriately. No doubt some cunt lets the side down though so I kinda get why she did it. Depending on my mood at the time I would either adhere and be behind it or I’d wipe my arse with it, fold it into a paper plane and fire it at the stage.
Totally artist and gig dependant.
If I was at the opera or a classical gig and someone sparked up I’d be quite perturbed. If I was at massive attack or portishead and the whole venue( outdoors) wasn’t in a haze of smoke and stinking of green I’d be a wee bit disappointed.
