Hmm, tonight’s gig has changed. Auka, our local folk trio, aren’t now playing, and it’s going to be a live recording session for this lot . Ticket price refunded. Interesting…
Well, that was fucking fantastic - really tight band, excellent musicians. The recording sounds great too, nice room acoustics and great kit.
Sounds a great evening. How many eventually attended Dave ?
Just the four of us in the audience (the other 3 are part time musicians, but too young for me to know who they are) and the engineer in the booth behind. I guess that helped the bond between band and audience, and we were all chatting before and after they played. It was probably the most enjoyable gig I’ve ever been to, a privilege to be there. They even gave me a CD of Voyager.
They will be back in March for a tour, playing the Lescar here, and I’ll certainly catch them then.
Sounds like a memorable and very enjoyable evening.
Indeed it was
Orb
Nottingham, March 2024.
Rearranged after the cancellation of the latest tour date.
Hope they play the old stuff!
DJ Shadow, Manchester 2024 (week after the above)
I can’t recommend his live sets enough. It’s all done with real vinyl and not just plug and play ( though there is clearly some!).
If you get the chance to see one, do!
Cheers for the heads up, Glasgow 27h March. What’s app group has been messaged. Just waiting to see how many willing participants I get before buying tickets.
Wife was impressed (last tour in Leeds). That says something.
He scratches and cuts live, and the music is made for listening loud.
It’s a one man show, but he is a master of his craft and the lasers and video back drop make it worth while.
I’ve been listening to the Live From Manchester album a lot recently, it’s really quite glorious.
Feminist punker night of the Pitchfork festival at the Roundhouse. We missed a couple of acts, however M(H)AOL were very good and surprisingly nuanced.
Snooper were bloody brilliant. The Cramps collide with The B52s on an ocean of shell suits.
No idea what giant papier mache wasp was about.
Sleater Kinney were very polished. All the guitar techs
Oh yes, TIL that the Roundhouse has a downstairs sweatbox stage. Me like.
Just started looking at tickets - £164
That’s a bit of a cost-of-living crisis.
Home game tonight - Empire State Bastard (Biffy, Oceansize, Bitch Falcon + Slayer supergroup of sorts) with Benefits as support.
The Electric in Brixton, 10 minutes on the bus because I am a lazy twonk at this time of day.
Early doors, Benefits are on at 7.30. I would guess that there is a club on later.
I’m sure you’re all sick of photos of Kingsley from Benefits so here’s a picture of the current drummer. After 6 drummers in 18 months I’ve given up trying to learn their names
Dave Lombardo was Dave fcuking Lombardo - it kind of felt like the drummer who they’d roped in rather outshone the rest of the band, although bassist lady kicked booty.
