Castle Rat on Sunday too

I was describing them to the wife and said “skinny chick with a very small chainmail bra” which got me a “so not your type at all” and a massive eyeroll

This is actually a significant date for us, so was completely off limits, however it will now be more constructive than watching spooky nazi movies and drinking myself into a coma.

Ooh, shit, the previous night

That looks like a massive pain in the crack to get to :slightly_frowning_face:

For thrash metal fans, yes, that Iggor Cavalera. I believe he does modular synths now.

Really enjoyed the John Martyn Project in Totnes last night.
Too far back for a decent pic with my phone but here they’d just finished with an unplugged Over the Hill.

If you like the music & they’re coming anywhere near you, I’d recommend it.

They are playing in Brighton tomorrow night, I hadn’t considered going, nor have I listened to their album.
I think it might be, that being a big John Martyn fan and having seen him live, I always have a feeling that tribute bands are never going to match the real thing.
Likewise I have never seen the Bootleg Beatle or Australian Pink Floyd etc.

I never have issues with people doing covers but it is the imitation thing I think.

I wouldn’t describe this as impersonation. 4 quite different singers, one female, handle the vocal duties. They are just fans of the music & want to share their enjoyment in playing it. They’re also very talented. The keyboard guy in particular nails the sound you’d want to hear. I never saw John Martyn live. We were happy to have the opportunity (reasonably priced at £20) to hear it. You pays your money or you don’t. There’s no need to be too precious about it

Good points, thought I would give it a go!
But £30 :disappointed: and sold out :disappointed:

Yesterday’s was sold out too and we got an early bird price back in November or whenever it was announced. I gather they first came together in 2019 for some ‘10 years anniversary of his death’ event and a, they got on well and b, the audience there really enjoyed it. So they carried on & are gradually adding to their repertoire (plenty to go at) and even put in an extremely proggy piece of his which I’d not heard before.

They also weren’t all playing all of the songs. Sometimes solo renditions, sometimes 2, 3 or 4 taking part. One did a great version of Spencer the Rover.

From last year.

I’m going on Thursday, based in large part on your previous recommendation. In the past I thought like @Kevin , it would be sacrilegious to hear someone else playing that great music but my mate suggested going so ……

Arctangent line-up is filling out nicely. Green Lung and Lowen added

Go see Meryl Streek.

He has quite an electric presence and an unbelievable potty mouth.

Shouldn’t imagine tickets will last long

Key members of several of those bands (Jeff Hanneman of Slayer, Dimebag Darrell of Pantera, to some extent Cliff Burton of Metallica) are kind of dead :face_with_monocle:

I don’t think resurrection was ever on the cards, although that would be the most metal thing ever :grinning:

Original line up Sabbath would sell out any gig with no support, don’t think the support line up dead/alive status matters much.

Did you ever see Heavy Trip?

“You just nearly started a war. You brought your dead drummer to the show. This is the MOST METAL THING EVER”.

Yeah, since that is a Fear Factory song.

Adequate

This is about a mile down the road. I had no intention of going - I decided last year that I’m too old.

But now Queen Nadine, Snõõper (who are bloody brilliant), Kneecap :grimacing:

Gig peril.
