Gigs I'm going to. The Gyroscope diaries

I was supposed to be at an in-person meeting at 10am. I dialled in… hit the GET TICKETS button at 10:00:01. Job done. Fourth time lucky getting tickets to see Goat.

It was fun. 50 or 60 metalheads crammed into a small room. Mixing desk man did a top notch job. The band were tight.

Well this is a bit worrying in a very small space.

Well you can imagine the lighting at a Stephen O’Malley gig but you get the idea.

My suggestion to my buddy that he should probably bring earplugs was eerily on the money. Astonishingly loud.

How did it compare to a Sunn O))) gig?

I’m not usually one for analysing gigs but the thought did occur to me.

For me it was a more pure distillation of the ceremony / sonic oblivion thing.

And the size of the venue obviously made a big difference - you’re standing 10ft from him. A good few people were simply sitting or kneeling around him as he purged the bad vibes with cleansing drone.

Support from Dawn Terry was very good too if accordion drone is your thing.

Please excuse the flags.

A change of pace this evening. Tunes! With words! Fink at Rough Trade East.

My friend expressed ambivalence about getting anything signed then took off like a rat up a drainpipe when they said “form a queue”.

It turns out that his wife is a massive fan and he hadn’t thought to mention that he was going to see this guy he’s heard a couple of times on the radio. So when he sent her the selfie

there was a bit of fallout :man_facepalming:

Oh, superb playing, superb sound.

He is doing an instore gig at Resident in Brighton next Saturday.
It clashed with Lopwell so I didn’t apply.
The tickets disappeared pretty quick!
Fink used to live in Brighton and recorded his first few albums here and has a huge following.

We’re seeing him at this at the end of the month.

Morvala Festival 2026, Cornwall | UK Music Festival | 25-28 June

Are you going for the weekend or just Friday

I first went to a concert at The Liverpool Empire in February 1976, back there tonight for Kraftwerk (and I don’t have to get up for school tomorrow ).

Weekend, we got some earlybird camping tickets but will come home for the night if the weather looks really bad at any point.

Double bill of Americana at Cafe#9 tonight, first Joe H Henry from Nova Scotia

then Ash Gray (once Texan) and Johnny Griff from Sheffield

an excellent evening
