Hand Egg Ball(ocks)

Buccs @ Seahawks started off pretty drab, but a real game has broken out.
QBs trading touchdowns drive for drive

Not a good week for the avian teams, with the Eagles, Seahawks, Ravens, and Cardinals all losing

Just watched the Eagles get mullered by the Giants,

There is something wonderful about the NFL draft system and payroll cap which allows teams to turn around their fortunes.

Over the last few seasons you wouldn’t have given the Giants a chance against the Eagles.
But here they are humbling the Champs, I appreciate coaches and scouts play a big part in putting the team together, but at least they have a chance!

I’ve long thought that the draft is far from perfect: I like the idea, but so many top players were not high in the draft, and so many high draft players are totally disappointments.

But it seems to have worked well for the Giants, who have a great QB and running back in one go. I almost feel sorry for Russell Wilson, but I think he’ll be fine!

Agree. The salary cap in particular prevents stockpiling and monopolisation of talent that continues to ruin football.

Football appears to be beyond redemption now. The beautiful game has become a horror show. It’s a real shame.

But it’s not just money. In NFL you get so many instances of amazing skill, and it’s great to see these dudes do the impossible; this has often been possible due to constant tinkering with the rules. Whenever a part of the game gets boring, the rules get adjusted. You just know that the brotherly shove is time limited!

When governing bodies keep coming up with rules that pretend to be about fairness or financial rigour, but which increasingly embed money and success within a small group of clubs across Europe then you know that they too have been bought.

I’m in two minds about the tinkering. But the standard of coaching and sports science (mental and physical) in the NFL is something else.

The Eagles aren’t doing themselves any favours by running it four plays in a row!

Yeah I think that the official line in the rules panel is to promote entertainment. Turning the game into 1970s rugby is really not that!

Both teams seem to want to lose. I think I do too.

Watching Browns-Steelers. Browns really are woeful. These divisional match ups usually turn into good games.

Fiddle-Dee-Dee, Fred Warner gone for the season by the looks of that ankle

Trevor Lawrence is perfect example of how top college players and first round picks don’t always fulfil their potential in the NFL.
He has been really poor today, Stafford looks totally comfortable and in charge for the Rams .
I appreciate they need a team around them, but chalk and cheese.

Edit: with 9 min to go in 4th Quarter he finally connects with Travis Hunter for a TD

Too little too late

That hit on Justin Fields was totally unacceptable. He was sliding, so no hit is allowed, but there was forceful contact, head to head. It’s like a triple foul. He went off injured.

The NFL really needs to take on the unnecessary violence. I get that it’s a contact sport, but players need to be ejected, and a sin bin system (down to ten players for ten minutes?) is necessary. This kind of thing needs to cost matches, only then will it stop.

Rugby is so far ahead, with the obligation to safely land a player you have lifted up etc.

They’re is a balance between skill and violence. Both have a place, but I think that the balance needs a bit of a shift.

Looked like Detroit was going to steamroll Minnesota after they scored so easily on their first drive, but the Vikings not having it. Settling into a good game
