Darkness is a good album but I actually prefer the Wild, the Innocent and the East St shuffle of those early albums.
Here’s a nice review that gives it some context. I hadn’t realised it was actually a commercial flop at the time.

Best live performer I have ever seen.
I was so pissed off when my parents wouldn’t let me go to the legendary gig at Hammersmith Odeon in 1975 (Born to Run Tour)
Although I was 15 and it was school night, but one days school would have been nothing to be able to say right now that I was there! 
I have seen him 5 or 6 times since then and he has never disappointed.
I am not even sure that his records are the best way to appreciate him, and of course the E Street Band, who are amazing in their own right
I have seen plenty of bands who don’t look like they want to be there, who don’t seem to give a shit about the people who pay a lot money and spend a lot of time getting to gigs, Springsteen certainly isn’t one of them, if you go to one of his gigs you will get your moneys worth.
Springsteen has a rapport with his audience and it is evident.
I get why people don’t like a popular succesful musician, it isn’t cool is it?
I gave my younger brother a ticket to a Wembley Stadium gig for his 21st birthday, it was the best thing I could have done as far as our relationship went.
Trev died suddenly two years ago and Thunder Road was the the last song played at his funeral, so I am biased, Bruce means a lot to me.

My best mate, sadly departed now, didn’t get him until we went to a gig at Old Trafford cricket ground, he came away totally sold (as I knew he would).
Heard Steven VZ interviewed the other week and he revealed when they counted up the number of different songs they had played on the
last tour, 265 I think he said. He does have a back catalogue!
Personally my favourite album was recorded without the band “The Ghost of Tom Joad”
